At long last, here’s the first picture of Chris Evans in his WWII-era costume for Joe Johnston’s Captain America.  Er, Captain America: The First Avenger.  Sorry, Marvel, I wouldn’t want to forget your precious tie-ins.  Oh my gosh, is that Black Widow’s spent tampon in the background? I love Easter eggs!

The film is set to open July 2011.  In the meantime, someone should tell Chris Evans that there’s a fine line between “Determined Hero” and “Le Tigre.”

WHO CARES, IT’S ONLY A ZOOLANDER SEQUEL

02.25.10 Written by Vince Mancini

zoolander-Mugatu

I’ve made no secret of my love of Zoolander.  At the very least, it allows me to pretend liking “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go” is purely ironic and cool.  What? Oh right, next you’ll tell me Queen is gay. Anyway, as such it’s with a happy smile and buttered asshole that I report Tropic Thunder writer Justin Theroux is in negotiations to write and direct a Zoolander sequel.

Ben and Justin are working on the script together, and Theroux is going to Fashion Week in Paris to “immerse himself on what is current in fashion”. ”It’s got momentum,” a studio source just told me. Everyone’s hoping Owen Wilson co-stars again but no deal is set. The villain likely will be Jonah Hill who’s in negotiations. [DeadlineHollywood]

I hope Owen Wilson isn’t too busy Kate Hudsoning his career with Marmaduke, that Farrelly Brothers’ movie, and Little Fockers to be in this.  The concept just doesn’t work as well without two dudes with jacked up noses being male models.  No one wants to see actual male models, that would be gay. (Hint, hint, Captain America). Read the rest of this entry »

ZOOLANDER 2?

12.02.08 Written by Vince Mancini

Everyone’s got a story about this today and it seems like the quote’s being blown out of proportion.  But at the premiere of Madagascar 2 in London, Ben Stiller had this to say about the possibility of a Zoolander sequel:

“I feel that is the sequel I really would like to do some day because I like the original and I would make sure it was something new and worthy of it first.” [TheSun]

Zoolander is one of the rare movies to which a sequel might actually be a good idea.  The first made a fairly modest $60 million worldwide (on a $30 million budget) and then became sort of a cult hit on DVD.  It’s easily the high point of Stiller’s acting career, and Mugatu is probably my favorite Will Ferrell character.  If the same movie came out today, it’d make $100 mil, easy.  Need proof of its popularity?  Check out the mouth on virtually every greasy dipshit on the internet and tell me they’re not doing Blue Steel.

On second thought, maybe a Zoolander sequel’s not such a good idea.

VIN DIESEL STILL PROBABLY GAY

10.24.07 Written by Vince Mancini

Earth to Vin

Check this out, the latest poster for the upcoming Vin Diesel flick, Babylon A.D.

Veteran-turned-mercenary Thoorop (Diesel) takes the high-risk job of escorting a woman from Russia to China. Little does he know that she is host to an organism that a cult wants to harvest in order to produce a genetically modified Messiah. There has not been a teaser trailer for the film yet, just a few production photos. [FirstShowing*]

Yeah, either that or he’s on his way to get an Orange Mocha Frappucino.  Or to have sex with a dude.

*Who writes, "I’m sure there are a few of you who are expecting this to be another terrible Vin Diesel film, but this poster is purely badass." Put down the bong. Now.
