SIMON PEGG VS. A PENIS WITH EYEBROWS

04.10.09 Written by Vince Mancini

This is the latest clip from JJ Abrams’ Star Trek, aptly titled “Answer Me.”  In this one we get to see plastic condom mannequin with eyebrows Zachary Quinto play Spock, as well as hints at the origin of Scotty (played by Simon Pegg).  Apparently, Scotty just wandered in one night when it was raining and they decided screw it, you can be the ship’s engineer.  It’s funny because isn’t that just like a Scotsman lol!

Fun fact: Chris Pine was drawn to acting in junior high after he quit basketball. His coach was always riding the Pine.

STAR TREK STILL LOOKS SURPRISINGLY DECENT

03.06.09 Written by Vince Mancini

Lost/Cloverfield creator JJ Abrams’ Star Trek movie has a new trailer out, and once again I have to say that it looks surprisingly watchable. Plus, Bruce Greenwood is in it, and he’s like Jesus, but better.  It’s weird, every time I see a trailer for this I think I’ll probably see it, but then I see posters of Spock at the theater and I want to run far, far away.  Every time I look at this guy I hear Amber Alerts.  Seriously, he’s creepy as f-ck.  He looks like a condom with eyebrows.

But to get that unsexy image out of your head, know also that Diora Baird is also in this, and she’ll be playing “Orion Slave Girl.”  That’s solid casting, because Diora Baird has magnificent tits. The tits of the future, really.

THE NON-BUTTCAM STAR TREK TRAILER

11.17.08 Written by Vince Mancini

The full trailer for JJ Abrams’ Star Trek obviously leaked online over the weekend, and now we have the official version.  I’ve been pretty critical of this so far, but I have to admit, the trailer is pretty damned awesome.  I still hate the casting of Spock and Captain Kirk (as commenter Max points out, the movie takes place during Spock and Kirk’s days as students, so them being young makes sense, but do they have to be so… clean?), but aside from that it looks far better than I ever would’ve imagined.  And that first voice over?  You better believe that’s Bruce Greenwood.  He plays Chris Pike in the movie, but I’d definitely be okay with him taking over for Don LaFontaine and narrating all trailers from now on. Bruce Greenwood fact of the day: Bruce Greenwood once got hired to read the audiobook version of Dianetics, and Scientology came true.

STAR TREK STILL LOOKS CREEPY, GAY

11.11.08 Written by Vince Mancini

Paramount released a couple new posters for the upcoming JJ Abrams’ produced Star Trek movie, and while they’re not as bad as the last batch, these guys both still look way too young for these roles.  Chris Pine (channelling E.R.-era George Clooney) doesn’t bother me as much in this shot, which probably has a lot to do with the angle and lighting minimizing his giant forehead and fruity highlighted hair. But Zachary Quinto’s Spock, with his ultra-rubbery skin and gently parted lips, looks like he wants to touch me in my swimsuit area or smell my infant child.

STAR TREK: NOTICE ANYTHING DIFFERENT?

10.28.08 Written by Vince Mancini

This comparison comes from Empire magazine, which will feature JJ Abrams’ Star Trek on the cover this month.  Can you spot the difference between the Leonard Nimoy/William Shatner version and the Zachary Quinto/Chris Pine version?  That’s right, now they’re made of wax!
