The Minecraft Beetlejuice Roller Coaster Is Pretty Amazing

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.22.13

While there are no new updates regarding the rumored Beetlejuice sequel that is a collaboration between the film’s original director Tim Burton with his new bro-ish protégé, Seth Grahame-Smith, it’s safe to assume that it’s still a go, considering a decade-late sequel would be rather apropos for Burton these days. Smith, on the other hand, has mastered the tactic of combining historical tales with the absurd, so it’ll be fun to see how Beetlejuice fits with the Spanish Inquisition.

In the meantime, super fans of the original film like myself and that guy who runs the world’s largest Beetlejuice museum from his home could use a little pick-me-up, and fortunately YouTube users Rivergrl21 and Nuropsych1 have just what we need. Using their XBOX 360 in “creative mode” (I have no clue what that means), the duo spent the last two months developing a Beetlejuice roller coaster in Minecraft.

Warning: After watching this amazing video, you might become instantly depressed that this coaster doesn’t actually exist.

The Internet nearly exploded with nerdy joy when Hulu made the Criterion Collection available for free last weekend. Maybe a movie featuring an evil lizard king or a crime-fighting Santa Claus? Fortunately, there are literally dozens of Hollywood’s anti-masterpieces available for free every single day on YouTube. Site News: Uproxx & 5-Second Films Are Broing Down

Written by Vince Mancini / 02.06.13

Howdy, fellas and dudettes, it’s your old buddy Vince here. I’ve got some exciting news: Uproxx is teaming up with 5-Second Films to create a futuristic chimera of dickjoklian proportions, that our enemies will eventually come to know as UPROXX VIDEO, which promises to be the TRUCKASAURUS OF INTERNET. What’s that mean, you ask? Well, for the past few years, Uproxx and 5-Second Films have been sort of unofficial partners and co-cheerleaders, an arrangement that led to you seeing things like this:

In keeping with our mission to make these sites a virtual bitchin’ keg party full of smokin’ babes, chill dudes, chiller brew, and cat pictures till we spew, we’re taking our friends-with-benefits relationship with 5SF to the next level. Meaning, we’re going from occasional F-buddies to a sort of Bushwhackers-type partnership, where we stomp around the party spitting videos at you and wrestling each other. I’m sorry, I realize my metaphors can get a bit lofty. But the point is, we’ve started a YouTube Channel and you can expect to see 3-4 original videos per week. So start gettin’ lubed up, Cheech. The video annotations aren’t working at the moment, but you can subscribe like a boss right here. I. Could not. Be more. Excited. Now, if you need me, I’ll be shadowboxing in the corner until this meth wears off. Oh, and can someone check on Burnsy? I vaguely remember trying to kill him because I thought he was the devil.

Brazil orders YouTube to remove Innocence of Muslims trailer

Written by Vince Mancini / 09.26.12

I’ve long praised Brazil as a magical land where butts are worshiped and few f*cks are given, but today’s news threatens to change all that. It turns out a Muslim group in Brazil sued YouTube in Brazilian court over hosting Sam Bacile’s now-infamous Innocence of Muslims trailer… and they won. The court ordered YouTube to pull the trailer within 10 days.

The decision by a state court in Sao Paulo, home to a large Middle Eastern immigrant community, came hours after Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff criticized “Islamophobia” in Western countries in a speech at the United Nations.
The lawsuit against the controversial film was brought by a Brazilian Muslim group, the National Islamic Union, against YouTube owner Google Inc for posting on the Internet a film it said was offensive and a violation of the constitutional right to freedom of religion.
In his decision, Judge Gilson Delgado Miranda said the case juxtaposed freedom of expression and the need to protect individuals or groups of people from action that might incite religious discrimination.
Miranda concluded that banning something illegal should not “offend” freedom of thought and expression, according to the ruling posted online by Estado de S. Paulo newspaper.

Well sure, suspending freedom of speech in certain cases shouldn’t hurt freedom of speech. Everyone has access to freedom of speech, as long as they don’t say things that other people don’t like, that’s how it works, right?? … Meanwhile, back in America, Google execs, upon hearing the ruling, commented, “Oooh, an ultimatum from Brazil, we’re soooo scared. What are you going to do if we don’t take the video down, pull out our pubic hair?”

It wasn’t the only Brazilian court ruling against Google on Tuesday. Earlier, an elections court ordered the arrest of Google’s most senior executive in Brazil after the company failed to take down YouTube videos attacking a local mayoral candidate. [Reuters]

Arrested, seriously? Get it together, Brazil. I’m not sure you guys quite understand how the internet works (if our senators think it’s a series of tubes, God only knows what analogy they use over there). And anyway, don’t you have bigger things to worry about? Like, say, Blanka? If my countless hours of Street Fighter have taught me anything, it’s that you should be far more worried about Blanka than a couple of angry Muslims. He’ll bite your face! And the electricity!

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Has An Admirer

Written by Ashley Burns / 11.15.11

Lindsay Miller is a 26-year old grad student living in Los Angeles, and she is currently living with pancreatic neuroendocrine cancer. You can read all about her struggles and inspiring thoughts on her blog, “I Am a Liver,” on which she made a particularly appealing post yesterday.

After recently seeing the comedy 50/50, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen, Miller had herself a “Why the f*ck not?” moment and she recorded a video asking Gordon-Levitt to meet her for a cup of coffee.

As you might recall, I saw the cancer comedy 50/50 recently and was impressed with it, though it was difficult emotionally for me to watch.

Also, I didn’t admit this in my first post about it, but after seeing Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s performance and seeing/reading some of his subsequent interviews about the film I thought, “This guy gets it. And he’s cute. I wonder if I could ever run into him somewhere.” But even though I live in LA, it seems impossible to find him.

Maybe YouTube can help…

Hell yeah, YouTube should help. I’m a total sucker for these kind of videos, especially when they have meaning to them. Like, I make about 20 or 30 videos each week asking Rachel Bilson to rub my feet, but people see that as “creepy” and “really f*cking creepy.” This video is sweet, though, and if Justin Timberlake can take a few hours out of his schedule to attend the Marine Corps Ball after a YouTube invite, then I think JGL should be able to spare a few minutes for a fan, too.

Then maybe Rachel Bilson can rub my feet.
