Gillian Anderson attended the Sarajevo Film Festival (still looking good) and commented on the possibility of a third X-Files movie.  Radar provides a translation:

Gillian Anderson is giving hope to The X-Files fanatics everywhere that she and David Duchnovy may reunite for a third installment in the film series.  “There isn’t any reason not to do it,” the actress said during an appearance at the Sarajevo Film Festival.
“I feel a certain commitment to that group of people that I worked with and we still enjoy doing it, when we do it. There is no reason why not to come together and do it again. If they can pull it off, we’ll find some reason to make it.”
The film could be out in 2012, Anderson said.

USA Today has this still from the production of the new X-Files movie to go along with an article that reports, among other things, that the picture won’t deal with the alien plotline.

The film, which remains without a formal title, will dump the long-running "mythology" plotline — that aliens live among us and are part of a colonizing effort — that made it one of the most popular television shows in the late 1990s but ultimately drove away some viewers who found it too complex and ambiguous.

"We spent a lot of time on (the mythology) and wrapped up a lot of threads" when the show went off the air in 2002, says Chris Carter, creator of the series and director of the new movie. "We want a stand-alone movie, not a mythology conspiracy one."

Personally, I liked the episode where Mulder bent Scully over the toilet and was doing her from behind and telling her she was a stupid slut and dunking her head, and then she whacked off the pony into a high-ball glass and poured it on her boobs.  That one was awesome.  Think it might’ve been a different X-Files though, come to think of it.  

Rapper Xzibit, Amanda Peet [NWS pics - you're welcome] and Scottish comic Billy Connolly have signed on for director Chris Carter’s next big-screen adaptation of the hit TV series. Citing a policy of secrecy surrounding the plot line, Fox would not confirm any details regarding the three actors’ roles. But sources said Xzibit and Peet will play FBI agents alongside David Duchovny’s Mulder and Gillian Anderson’s Scully. The supernatural thriller is a stand-alone story, not a sequel or continuation of the hit 1998 feature adaptation. [Hollywood Reporter]

The lede in this story was, “The X-Files movie will be packing more heat.”  What the fuck’s that supposed to mean?  That all rappers carry weapons?  That’s some racist shit – Xzibit would shoot you for saying that.

And by the way: Xzibit, David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Amanda Peet, Billy Connelly – this may be the weirdest cast of all time.  If Xzibit and Billy Connelly get in a freestyle fight by the lunch truck, I might have to go and lie down. Gillian Anderson is now 67 years old. True story.
