ALL MOVIE CHARACTERS WORK AT MAGAZINES

The new Confessions of a Shopaholic trailer premieres this weekend attached to Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist.  An adaptation of the best-selling book series, producer Jerry Bruckheimer promises to bring the same brainless cheeseball approach to chick flicks as he does to movies about pirates, or treasure, or pirate treasure.

After losing her job, Becky applies to be a writer at a Condé Nast fashion glossy. Instead, she is hired for a financial magazine, a position that is way beyond her qualifications. In the big-screen version, her boss is also her love interest (Hugh Dancy of The Jane Austen Book Club).

So let me get this straight, she’s a young professional woman living in Manhattan who’s obsessed with designer clothes, doing a job that’s way over her head for a famous magazine, and she’s in love with her handsome boss?  This is all so new, it’s a lot to process.  If only she had some girlfriends with whom to share the good times and the bad…

KATE HUDSON = DEAD CANARY IN A MINESHAFT

Anne put her hand where my face goes

My love Anne Hathaway recently made the same mistake as Dane Cook and Matthew McConnaughey before her, starring in a movie opposite Kate Hudson, whose presence is a sure sign it’s probably going to suck. I’ve got the trailer for Bride Wars after the jump, but you know pretty much everything you need to from the title. Personally, I like romantic comedies, because they show us that all women care about is hair, makeup, tanning, clothes, and getting married. Funny because it’s true! Women be shoppin’, am I right guys? Let’s all go iron our shirts and fail comically.

WOMEN BE SHOPPIN’

09.05.08 Written by RoboPanda

The first trailer for Confessions of a Shopaholic premiered during the most recent broadcast of 90210 or Gossip Girl or one of those other shows I pretend don’t exist.

The movie, based on Sophie Kinsella’s best-selling book, stars Isla Fisher as the adorable, silly, and sassy heroine Becky Bloomwood.

Trailer here.  Try not to stab anything.

This character is so “adorable, silly, and sassy” that she runs up massive credit card debt on ridiculous-looking outfits (silly!), then lies about her credentials to land a job at a magazine (sassy!), makes several clumsy mistakes while a cute guy is watching (adorable!), and ultimately finds a husband (inevitable!).  That’s the template for every one of these chick flicks: goofy girl works for a big city media outlet, has bad first impression with future husband, hears lecture from sister/mother/friend, ignores lecture, does something stupid that angers future husband, buys ice cream, realizes sister/mother/friend was right, apologizes to future husband in front of onlookers, is forgiven, buys wedding dress.  Roll credits featuring the “Feel the Rain on Yo’ Skin” song.

SHOCKING SEX AND THE CITY NEWS

07.11.08 Written by Vince Mancini

Alt. Headline: WOMEN BE SHOPPIN!

Sex and the City made a buttload of money and the actors in it don’t do anything else, so it comes as a big shock that HBO has confirmed that a sequel is in development.  The best part of this is that EW has a comments section.  It’s nice, because so often I see something on the news and think, “Huh.  I wonder what a braindead harpy would think about this.”  And now I know!  Thanks, EW!  It’s like the loveless marriage I was never trapped in!

Yay!!! I loved the movie, and can’t wait for the sequel! I agree, Big needs to be a really good husband–they NEED to let him and Carrie be happy! Can’t wait to see what this fantastic team comes up with next!

I would love to see another SATC film, as long as Big DOESN’T cheat, divorce or disappoint Carrie again. Enough already! Can we please make a movie where he’s a good husband?

Amen, sister!  I mean, why can’t they make a film with no plot or conflict?  It works great on Entourage.  YAY!! Another pool scene!!
