As of last week, the possibility of a movie based on ‘MacGruber,’ was just an insanely stupid idea, something that was being “looked at.”  But now it looks as if it’s about to become insanely stupid reality.

Will Forte tells Jimmy Fallon that the film based on the “SNL” sketch has been written [by Forte, John Solomon, and Jorma Taccone (of The Lonely Island)] . “We’re going to make it in Albuquerque,” he says. “It’s me and Kristin Wiig and cast to be determined.” But he was quick to point out: “It’s maybe a little different than what people are thinking.”

And by that I can only hope he means “not incredibly lame”.  They should make it an origin story.  It could be two guys sitting on a couch, and one says, “Hey, dude, remember MacGuyver?”  It would be… rather short.

“MacGruber” is a gimmick SNL sketch that was never more than mildly funny to begin with and survives only because it’s usually less than a minute long. Hey, perfect to make a movie about, right?  At least, that’s what Lorne Michaels said at today’s Peabody award ceremony. [Sidenote: the same place where this photo was taken.  Holy hell! Russian nesting dolls!].

Lorne Michaels said that now that the “SNL” season is over, his team will start looking at new people and new writers in the coming weeks. When the show returns in September, “there will be something interesting to do” with political specials and “Weekend Updates” given that the elections are done, he said when quizzed about the next step for the political sides of “SNL.” He didn’t provide specifics.

He also told THR that a “McGruber” film is still being looked at. “It would have to be in the summer because we are back in production in the fall,” he told THR when asked about the possible production timing. “We’re still in discussions” on details, he added. [THR]

I really wanted to make a joke about how awful an idea this is, but I just can’t stop thinking about this picture.  Somewhere John Madden is drooling on his hard on.

Collider posted a bunch of clips from The Brothers Solomon today.  I don't watch clips of movies I plan on seeing, but I was sort of on the fence about this one.  I watched them all, and I pretty much still am.  I like Will Arnett, but I don't see him carrying a movie.  I'm not sure how I feel about Will Forte – his Bush impression really sucked, and he always seems to be doing something weird with his lips, kind of like how Sandler used to make the baby voice all the time.  And Kirsten Wiig was funny in Knocked Up, but it seems like that's pretty much the only character she plays.  

What can I say, JUDGE FOR YOURSELF FOR ONCE, PEOPLE. Guh.
