WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: BYE WEEK

A bye week, that’s what this week felt like.  But the weekend after Thanksgiving is always slow, and even though The Blind Side landed on top with a mediocre $20 million in its third week, business overall was up 21% over last year.  So put that on yr Power Point, Mrs. Potato Dick.

Brothers and Armored were the two new releases, and they earned a not-particularly-noteworthy $9.7 and $6.6 million, respectively.  Fantastic Mr. Fox fell all the way out of the top 10 despite being really good, and I wonder if this is partially my fault for being too lazy to finish a review.  I’m so sorry, you guys. *cutting*

Finally, the other new release this weekend, Transylmania, set a record for the lowest gross ever for a film opening on more than 1,000 screens, earning just $272,000 at 1,002 theaters.

TRAILER FOR ‘TRANSYLMANIA’ *AIR GUITAR*

09.01.09 Written by Vince Mancini

Just so you don’t think I’m racist or xenophobic for making fun of Nigeria’s Chicken Madness in the last post, here’s an American movie with 1,000 times the budget and at least twice the stupidity. If Twilight got double penetrated by a Seltzer-Freebird movie and a direct-to-DVD American Pie sequel, Transylmania would be the stain on the mattress floor of the van.  It stars the “I shoot squirrels because they’re gay” guy from Cabin Fever and was co-written by a guy named Worm.  The funniest part?  It’s actually getting a theatrical release.  And frankly, I’m offended there’s no record scratch in the trailer.  If ever a trailer was screaming for a record scratch…

Tagline: Euro-trashed! Euro-smashed! Euro-slashed!  Synopsis: “Spoof horror in which a group of college kids do a semester abroad in Romania and realize that if the partying doesn’t kill them, the vampires just might!”
