"Really, a scythe? Pretentious ass."

This is the trailer for Burke & Hare, starring Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis (aka Gollum, my preciousses), an indie comedy from the UK that so far doesn’t have a US release date.  But who knows, maybe we can find a distributor here who’s not too busy watching Two & a Half men reruns and we can eventually see it. (Oh, I get it, Charlie Sheen wears bowling shirts!  Classic!)

Burke & Hare  is based on the true story of the body-snatchers William Burke (Pegg) and William Hare (Serkis). These two Irish entrepreneurs discover that a dead body can fetch a hefty price when the demands of the leading medical professors Dr. Knox (Tom Wilkinson) and Dr. Monroe (Tim Curry) reach beyond that of the local supply. Also stars Isla Fisher,  David Schofield, Allan Corduner, Bill Bailey, Hugh Bonneville, Michael Smiley and Christopher Lee. [ComingSoon]

It comes from director John Landis, who had an insane run of hits starting in the late 70s — Animal House, Blues Brothers, Trading Places, Three Amigos, and Coming to America, only to flame out in the 90s — Oscar, Beverly Hills Cop 3, Blues Brothers 2000.  According to IMDB, his last feature film was 1998′s Susan’s Plan, starring Billy Zane and Rob Schneider which I hadn’t heard of until today.  To be honest, I probably could’ve gone even longer.  This one looks like it has potential (and has an awesome cast), so here’s to hoping this is Landis’ return to form.  I can’t remember a comeback after a long crappy period ever happening with comedy, but maybe this can be the first.  Also, am I the only one who constantly misreads “Hugh Bonneville” as “Huge Bonerville”?  I think that’s Isla Fisher’s home town.

XXTREEME PELVIC EXAM OOOH WHA-AH AH-AH!!

The-Debt-Extreme-Pelvic-Exam

After the jump, I’ve got the trailer for The Debt, starring Sam Worthington, Tom Wilkinson, and Helen Mirren, from Shakespeare in Love director John Madden, co-written by Kick-Ass writers Matthew Vaughn and Jane Goldman.   The plot is that in 1965, three Mossad agents head to Europe to track down a Nazi war criminal, “the surgeon of Birkenau”, who probably performed lots of Human Centipede experiments, as Germans are wont to do.

I was all set to say, “Hey, isn’t this just like Munich?” when BOOM! Jessica Chastain takes Dr. Nazi down to beatdown town by distracting him with her glistening labes during a routine pelvic exam.  Whoa!  I had a dude try to pull that against me in a Jiu-Jitsu tournament, which is clearly against the rules, but I digress.  Point is, The Debt looks pretty sweet (opens December 29th).  Watching the trailer at home, Mel Gibson reportedly shouted, “LOOK OUT, DOC, THAT JEW CLAM AIN’T KOSHER, SOOWEEE SOOOWEEE!!!”

MR. AND MRS. SMIT- UH, I MEAN ‘DUPLICITY’

Written by Vince Mancini / 11.26.08

Duplicity (trailer after the jump) stars Julia Roberts, Clive Owen, Paul Giamatti, and Tom Wilkinson, and comes from Michael Clayton director Tony Gilroy (“H.W. calls it Michael Gay-ton.  That’s a burn”).  Judging by the kooky horn music, it’s some kind of screwball comedy, and Clive Owen and Julia Roberts are a spy couple.

What would it take to live like this?
20 million dollars?
I was thinking more like 40.
So what do you have to do to make 40 million dollars?

Well, you could always just have Julia Roberts’ character go undercover as Julia Roberts like in Ocean’s Twelve.  Goddamn that was f-cking stupid.

NEW ROCKNROLLA SPOT

Written by Vince Mancini / 08.18.08

A new TV spot was just released for RocknRolla, Guy Ritchie’s latest film which will hopefully put the Madonna period in his life behind him and usher in a golden era of not sucking.   The film stars Tom Wilkinson and Gerard Butler, and the TV spot has lots of thick Cockney voice over, which is a lot more fun if you picture the Geico lizard saying it.

Now that he and Madonna are getting divorced, filmlovers the world over have our fingers crossed that Guy Ritchie can go back to not sucking.  Based on this latest trailer for Rocknrolla, at the very least it’ll be filled with guns and English accents. Just like sex with yours truly. Oy, bugga me norks, guvna.  *bang bang*
