GERVAIS MOVIE ADDS LOUIS CK, JONAH HILL

Written by Vince Mancini / 02.07.08

Figuring his movie didn’t have enough frizzy-haired Jews, Ricky Gervais added Jonah Hill from Superbad and comedian Louis C.K.  If you don’t know Louis C.K., he’s the guy from whom Dane Cook steals his jokes.  He’s also Catholic. I probably should’ve mentioned that earlier.

This Side of the Truth stars Rob Lowe, Jennifer Garner, and Ricky Gervais.  The film is set in a contemporary world where no one has ever lied. Gervais plays an actor who tells the world’s first lie and uses it to get ahead.

Hill will play Mark’s neighbor, who suffers from depression, while Louis C.K. will play Mark’s loser best friend. "The Office" co-creator Gervais marks his feature directing debut with the film, which he’s co-writing and co-directing with Matt Robinson.

I’m pretty excited for this movie, but then again, the other day I found a leftover Cheeto in the pocket of my sweatpants and literally cried tears of joy.

RICKY GERVAIS SNAGS JENNIFER GARNER

Written by Vince Mancini / 11.19.07

Jennifer Garner has been cast as the love interest in This Side of the Truth, an upcoming Ricky Gervais project I first reported a few months ago.

The film is set in a contemporary world where no one has ever lied. Gervais plays an actor who tells the world’s first lie and uses it to get ahead.

"My character works in the film industry, where actors are really readers who tell completely factual stories," Gervais said. "My character’s a loser who’s about to lose his job, and who’s lumbering through the 1300s. All he’s got to work with is the Black Death. But once he lies and pretends he’s found lost stories, he becomes the greatest storyteller in the world."

I think it’s funny to see these cute actresses playing medeival love interests.  I mean, sure, in the movie it’s a girl that looks like Jennifer Garner, but in real life, it’s some chick that’s never plucked an eyebrow, has hairy legs, rotting teeth, and probably smells like an armpit smeared in dog crap.  So yeah, it’s a wonderful time to be alive.  Hot Pockets and iPods, man.

RICKY GERVAIS STARRING AND DIRECTING

Written by Vince Mancini / 09.13.07

Ricky Gervais is my favorite thing about the U.K. besides pronouncing "twat" so that it rhymes with "cat".  So it's great news to me that he'll be playing the lead role and co-directing an upcoming comedy called This Side of the Truth (not to mention, it gives me an excuse to post clips from Extras).

The film is set in a contemporary world where no one has ever lied. Gervais plays an actor who tells the world's first lie and uses it to get ahead.

"My character works in the film industry, where actors are really readers who tell completely factual stories," Gervais said. "My character's a loser who's about to lose his job, and who's lumbering through the 1300s. All he's got to work with is the Black Death. But once he lies and pretends he's found lost stories, he becomes the greatest storyteller in the world."

I've always said that since Monty Python and the first few years of SNL, there hasn't been nearly enough historical comedy.  Plenty of things that happened back in the day are just inherently funny. Like when your doctor and your barber were the same person, or that comically inept douchebag Rutherford B. Hayes.

Anyway, good on ya, Ricky, ya twat.   [Via Variety]
