10.04.11 Written by Vince Mancini

Here’s the new video for They Might Be Giants’ new song, “Can’t Keep Johnny Down,” which features 80-year-old Rip Torn bare-knuckle boxing some young shirtless punk. Hold on, let me get this straight, They Might Be Giants… Rip Torn… shirtless guys boxing… My God, this is relevant to ALL of my interests.

MORE WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

09.15.09 Written by Vince Mancini

The New York Times just published a batch of new images from Where the Wild Things Are, but since we’ve been talking about this movie since this site started and there’s still a month to go before it comes out, I’m gonna make you head over there for the in-depth character descriptions.  For now we’ll just call this guy Jar-Jarceratops, this one will be Labia Goat, and this thing is the Little Birdhouse in Your Soul.

ANOTHER PRETTY SWEET CORALINE TRAILER

01.27.09 Written by Vince Mancini

Coraline (background info here) makes my nerd boner swell.  That’s already been established.  All this new trailer does is make it a little more turgid, and give us a little better idea of the plot.  Basically, Coraline discovers a door in the floor that opens a wormhole into an alternate reality where instead of being emotionally absent jerks, everyone loves her.  It’s basically a metaphor for the internet.  I spend my whole life not being propositioned by busty dentists or getting invited to Asian teen bukkake parties, when suddenly I open a series of tubes into a land where I’m in command of multiple, simultaneous Roman orgies.  “Nay nay, the flaccid one displeases me.  BRING FORTH THE EMPEROR’S MIDGETS!”  Yeah… alternate realities are pretty great.

CORALINE LOVES THE ALPHABET

12.18.08 Written by Vince Mancini

Judging by the number of exclamation points in emails I get, many FilmDrunkards are quite excited about Coraline, the 3-D animated film from Nightmare Before Christmas director Henry Selick with soundtrack by They Might Be Giants. They recently released 26 new posters to 26 different websites of which FilmDrunk was not one because God forbid anyone give me anything or make my life any easier you crummy jerkfaces.  Luckily my computer still has a “Save-As” function so here they are.  The letter G is particularly creepy.  Also note that each poster has a fun little two-line rhyme.  I like rhyming.  According to a recent double-blind study by leading scientists, rhyming makes poetry at least 86% less “faggy”.

CORALINE FEATURETTE MAKES ME HAPPY

08.13.08 Written by Vince Mancini

This is a featurette for Coraline, based on the book by Neil Gaiman, directed by Henry Selick (Nightmare Before Christmas). It opens in February and the music will feature new songs by They Might be Giants (I highly recommend their Dunkin Donuts commercials). I don’t have much to add to this, just that I really enjoy it when nerds use their superpowers for the purpose of entertaining me. Also, is it just me or is Henry Selick beginning to look like one of his animations?

-Thanks to Michelle for the tip.
