For the latest issue of EW, Rainn Wilson dressed up as Paulie Walnuts and Xena (and MacGuyver and Capt. Picard), because it’s funny when guys who are lumpy and weird looking do that.  You can see video of the “event” over at EW.  Presumably the photo shoots were to help promote Wilson’s new movie The Rocker, but really, theater kids putting on costumes and doing silly accents isn’t exactly news.  Me not looking fabulous?  That’s news.

I’ll be honest, Rainn Wilson as a washed up 80s rockstar who has a comeback drumming for his nephew’s high school band is a pitch I’d probably catch if I were a movie exec (wait, was that gay?).

That’s why it’s sad how many times people get hit in the face and/or nuts during the trailer.  That figure tends to be inversely proportional with how funny the actual movie is (opposite is true to for videos shorter than thirty seconds). I counted two face shots, three prat falls, a nut shot, and an oops-we-couldn’t-afford-Jonah Hill.  And in the next frame, the kitty says to the doggie, "Here we go again!"

Demetri Martin, who will soon be appearing alongside Rainn Wilson in The Rocker (A failed, over-the-hill drummer (Wilson) gets a second chance at rock n’ roll fame, twenty years after getting booted out of his now legendary former band, Vesuvius), is one of the funniest comedians around. 

And now Comedy Central is giving him his own show, Important Things With Demetri Martin, "a sketch-variety show that will have Martin alternating between taped sketches and stand-up performances in front of a studio audience." Now, if only they’d send me a written apology for Mind of Mencia… 

I like Demetry Martin, because I love how he uses visual aides.  It reminds of meetings at my old job, where my boss would be clicking through PowerPoint presentations, and I’d just sit there, wishing she’d get AIDS.
