SHOULDA CALLED IT ‘HAAAAHT SURGERY’

After the jump, I’ve got the trailer for The Way We Get By is a documentary premiering at SXSW about the special relationship between servicemen and a group of old people in Bangor, Maine.

“On call 24/7 for the past six years, three senior citizens have made history by greeting nearly one million U.S. troops at the tiny airport in Maine. Filled with unexpected turns, their uplifting and emotional journey demonstrates the meaning of community at a time when America needs it most.” [IMDB]

It seems the soldiers and the seniors find common ground in that they both have to face death every day. I think this looks pretty good, but then, old people (sweet old people, not grumpy or smelly old people) are my second biggest weakness behind puppies.  Main difference is, old people you gotta feed more often.  Trust me, I’ll never make that mistake again.

NICE TRY, HIPPIES

02.03.09 Written by Vince Mancini

The makers of Breaking Upwards, an indie romantic-dramedy (an iRom-Dram) playing at SXSW (that’s “South By Southwest,” grandpa), recently made this faux rap video to promote their film.  The film tells the story of a New York couple played by real-life couple Daryl Wein and Zoe Lister-Jones (omg, it’s so meta!).  Will he pop the question?  Will she become Zoe Lister-Jones-Wein? Will she divorce him and marry Christopher Mintz-Plasse, thus becoming Zoe Lister-Jones-Wein-Mintz-Plasse?  Only time will tell.

Anyway, I give them extra points for creativity, but minus 1000 for the line “My future vision is generally spot on / much like the comic timing, of Jen Aniston.” You really couldn’t write a worse rap line than that.  At least not without referencing Kierkegaard.

(Plus 100 points for Olivia Thirlby in a bra).

The Bearded Cherub

Supersize Me director Morgan Spurlock (Organ Spurcock) treated the crowd to free beer during a power outage at a screening of his new film Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin.

He told the crowd, "Don’t thank me, these beers are brought to you by Bob and Harvey Weinstein [Owners of Miramax, the film's distributor]. They love you in Austin [A place in Texas]!"

In related news, Gary Busey butchered an entire coyote during a VHS screening of Beyond the Ring (trailer after the jump) at the local children’s shelter (from which he later had to be removed).

"But I shtop fighteen wheng my wife die!"

NOT YOUR TYPICAL BIGFOOT MOVIE

02.14.08 Written by Vince Mancini

This is a trailer for just one of the many movies playing at the SXSW (South by Southwest) film festival.

It’s called Not Your Typical Bigfoot Movie and it’s about a sport called "Bigfootin’", in which Appalachian Ohioans go into the woods and talk to the camera, often speaking for five minutes straight without making a single intelligible word.  Reached for comment, the film’s star said:

Nyet gingham Bigfoot inem woods um glib n’big pitchers gnu see’m?  I’m wencim inna mep n’tell youwhut.
