New pics from World War Z, Bryan Cranston joins cast

08.08.11 Written by Vince Mancini

I haven’t read it yet, but everyone who has seems to be sporting major nerd wood that Max Brooks’ zombie war oral history World War Z is coming to the big screen (I just have regular wood because Brad Pitt’s in it). Directed by Marc Forster and scheduled for a 2012 release, some pictures from the set in Falmouth, Cornwall, UK (hee hee! foul mouth cornhole!) hit over the weekend, along with the news that Breaking Bad‘s Bryan Cranston would have a “small but flashy” role in the film. I hope that means his dong falls out while he runs through the background

Feeling the pinch of a cold British summer morning, Brad appeared wrapped up on board the yellow SD Salmoor where most of the filming is taking place. The admiralty salvage vessel was covered in wax and fake icicles plus a hoard of locals that were signed up as extras. The crew set sail to a nearby location and returned banging weapons and hollering for the camera. [SplashNews]

I don’t know what’s going on in these, except that they seem to be carrying weapons and wearing elbow pads. The pads are probably wise, I’ve heard it gets slippery up there on the poop deck. Oh what, now you’re going to tell me I’m immature? Just because I crammed three wiener jokes and two poop jokes into this post? Whatever, man. I don’t respond to name calling. Seems like you’ve got a lot of growing up to do.

Catwoman is presenting. First pics of Anne Hathaway in Dark Knight Rises.

08.05.11 Written by Vince Mancini

Warner Bros just released this official image of Anne Hathaway as Selena Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises. I put the other two, possibly spoilery (but not really) set photos after the jump so no one would cry, even though this headline would’ve made way more sense with one of those in the banner. In any case, I’m interested in how this Catwoman character is going to work. For as much as Christopher Nolan gets his balls licked for these movies (rightly so), one of the biggest failings has always been the casting of the female roles. I love Anne Hathaway and all, and I think she’s a solid actress and it goes without saying that I’d totally do her, but if I have to pretend that Anne Hathaway can beat up a full grown man, it’s going to require more suspension of disbelief than pretending Katie Holmes is a hard-nosed District Attorney or that someone would refer to Maggie Gyllenhaal as “helloooo, beautiful.” (She’s attractive in a non-’beautiful’ kind of way…)

New Pictures of Bane on the set of The Dark Knight Rises (UPDATE)

08.01.11 Written by Vince Mancini

UPDATE: A Dark Knight Rises Facebook Page just posted some more, much spoilerier set pictures. Those begin on slide 7. Consider yourselves warned.

Courtesy of Splashnews (via JustJared), here are some new pictures of 33-year-old British dreamboat Tom Hardy as Bane on the set of the Dark Knight Rises in Pittsburgh (or “Shittsburgh,” as Sienna Miller pronounces it). He was wearing this same outfit in the teaser trailer, so I assume none of these pictures are what you would call spoilers. He basically looks like a bondage porn version of He-Man. And as if He-Man wasn’t already gay enough, they got the handsomest guy they could find and slapped gag over his mouth that looks like a giant anus. He-Man: The feelings you never dealt with.

Anyway, I guess the big question on everyone’s mind is what’s on that note Tom Hardy’s reading. I think I have an idea…

Bill Murray really digs your Tapout sweatshirt, bro

06.07.11 Written by Vince Mancini

Murray later shoved the kid in a puddle, yelling "Liddell was a pussy!"

An IMDB user recently uploaded the first pictures from the set of Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, currently shooting in Rhode Island, starring Bruce Willis, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand, Jason Schwartzman, Tilda Swinton and Harvey Keitel, with a rumored 2012 release.  It sounds amazing, and I’m not just saying that because I’m blogging from a coffee shop in San Francisco and love the smell of my own farts.  Anything would sound amazing with that cast, short of a Glee episode directed by M. Night Shyamalan.  To refresh your memory, here’s the synopsis:

Set on an island off the coast of New England in the 1960s, Moonrise Kingdom follows a young boy and girl falling in love. When they are moved to run away together, various factions of the town mobilize to search for them and the town is turned upside down – which might not be such a bad thing. Bruce Willis plays the town sheriff; two-time Academy Award nominee Edward Norton is cast as a camp leader; Academy Award nominee Bill Murray and Academy Award winner Frances McDormand portray the young girl’s parents; the cast also includes Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton and Jason Schwartzman. The young boy and girl are played by Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward.

You can see Ed Norton in his Scout Leader outfit after the jump.  It’s set in the 60s, so I have to assume the Tapout sweatshirt in the banner is the kid’s own and not part of wardrobe.  Which is disappointing, because nothing pleases me more than the image of foppish dandy Wes Anderson rubbing his be-ascotted chin thoughtfully while leafing through pieces at the Ed Hardy store. “Hmm, the skull vomiting blood is nice, but… too on the nose?  How about this dragon queefing a glitter rose?  Though I do like the rhinestone lettering on this ‘Tapping is for Fagg*ts’ shirt…. decisions decisions.”
