FIRST CLIP FROM QUANTUM OF SOLACE

10.15.08 Written by Vince Mancini

After the jump, I’ve got a new clip from Quantum of Solace, which finally hits theaters November 14th.  I know he’s British so it’s in his blood, but it seems like Daniel Craig is taking this whole keep a stiff upper lip thing a little too far.  What’s going on, is that Botox?  He looks like a cartoon turtle.

DARK KNIGHT SEQUEL VERY SIMILAR TO ORIGINAL

09.11.08 Written by Vince Mancini

The studio plans to rerelease The Dark Knight in January, at the height of Oscar season.  Execs hope the move will improve their chances to rub it in Spike Lee’s face.

Warners domestic distribution president Dan Fellman acknowledged ongoing talks with Imax executives about the prospect of restoring the Christian Bale starrer to some number of giant-screen venues in January. It’s uncertain if “Dark Knight” also will reappear in conventional venues at that point.

“It’s just a matter of bringing it back as a reminder for people,” a studio insider said. [THR]

“The who what now?” said an Academy voter of the $952 million dollar-grossing movie.  “Never heard of it.”

GOOD NEWS IN WATCHMEN LAWSUIT

09.03.08 Written by Vince Mancini

Yesterday’s Watchmen news was that Warner Bros was shooting for an April court date, while Fox, seeking to stop the release, was aiming for June.  Either choice being bad news for people actually hoping to see the movie in March, when it’s set for release.

Today’s news sounds much more promising.  Besides setting the trial date for January 6th, Judge Gary Allen Feess said Fox “should forgo any attempt to get a preliminary injunction against Warners to stop the release of the film because the issues were far too complex to be resolved on an interim basis.” [THR]  Which sounds to me like it’s likely to be released on schedule.

I don’t really have much to add to this, but I think court cases would be more interesting if the winning lawyers danced around all crazy and the losing lawyers had to be consoled by the judge like the paternity tests on Maury.

DARK KNIGHT NOW WORTH MORE THAN AFRICA

08.05.08 Written by Vince Mancini

The Dark Knight crossed the $400 million dollar mark yesterday, reaching the milestone in just 18 days, besting the previous fastest, Shrek 2, which took 43 days.  I’m no math major, but that’s like three times as fast.  It still has a ways to go to catch Titanic‘s $600.7 domestic haul, which took nine months in theaters to accumulate in 1997-1998.

In related news, I just stocked up on toilet paper so I won’t have to shower after I shit anymore.

FIRST TRAILER FOR MAX PAYNE

07.10.08 Written by Vince Mancini

Max Payne is a videogame that was heavily influenced by John Woo movies, with a plot very similar to the Crow (junkies kill main character’s wife and daughter during a home invasion, main character vows revenge on the drug ring responsible).  The main differences are that Max Payne isn’t dead, and the mob he’s tracking is more into the Satanic/supernatural.

The movie adaptation stars Mark Wahlberg and was directed by John Moore.  Just to recap, it’s a movie based on a videogame based on movies.  And the director was previously responsible for a remake of The Omen, Flight of the Phoenix, and Behind Enemy Lines.  But I’m sure it will be good because Sticky Fingaz is in it.  He’s like the Al Pacino of early 90s rappers.

Oh hey, who wants to guess what colors the poster for this will be?
