Zach Galifianakis is a diabetic assassin

07.07.10 Written by Vince Mancini

This is the red-band trailer for Operation Endgame, a direct-to-DVD spy comedy from Darko Entertainment starring Rob Corddry, Bob Odenkirk, Jeffrey Tambor, Zach Galifianakis, Adam Scott from Party Down, and Ving Rhames (and that super annoying blonde chick from Lost).  If you’re even casually familiar with comedy, you might assume a movie with a cast like that would be pretty funny.  Judging by this trailer, you’d be right.

So could someone explain to me how Killers and Knight and Day get a huge release and this goes straight to DVD?  Am I to believe that Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl or Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz can sell a movie on their own but Rob Corddry, Zach Galifianakis, and Bob Odenkirk can’t?  Is people’s taste really that bad?  Sometimes I swear Hollywood is run by 14-year-old girls.  And the especially stupid ones at that.

Butter Sculpting & Aziz Ansari: a Black List scripts update

04.08.10 Written by Vince Mancini

Aziz_Ansari_RAPTOR

The Black List is a list of Hollywood’s best unproduced scripts as voted on by executives.  The projects are interesting not because most executives aren’t complete idiots, but because projects tend to be better when they start with an actual script, instead of some half-assed pitch like, “Hey, what about guinea-pig secret agents?”  Anyway, here’s an update on two:

Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer signed on to direct 30 Minutes or Less, a script by Matthew Sullivan and Michael Diliberti.  I wasn’t a huge fan of Zombieland, but I thought the visual style was very cool, and I was hoping his next project wouldn’t be stock characters in a stock premise again.  Now THR reports that Aziz Ansari in a story that… “revolves around a junior high history teacher (Ansari) and a pizza-delivery man who are forced to rob a bank when one of them is strapped to a bomb vest.”  ThePlaylist has more details on the plot, though they warn it’s “spoilery”.  Meanwhile, Danny McBride is in talks to co-star as Ansari’s straitlaced University classics professor.  Ha, just kidding, he’ll play a “white trash goon.”  In honor of that, here’s a Tweet from KF*ckingP: “Doing free pap smears today on Miami Beach to raise money for Haiti. Let’s get our troops home!”  There’s so much right with that.

Rob Corddry will sculpt your butter for Obama.  In Butter, a script by Jason Micalleff ,Rob Corddry will stir Jim Carrey’s vanilla, stepping into a role he turned down, of a former butter-sculpting champion whose wife (Jennifer Garner) is the heir apparent to win this year’s title, only to be thwarted by a young black girl.  The whole thing is said to be a satire of the 2008 Iowa democratic caucus (the black girl is Obama, Jennifer Garner is Hillary).  Box-office toilet poison Kate Hudson is also signed to star, presumably as a stand in for Sarah Palin, the chick that ruins everything for everyone.  [via LATimesblog]

HOT TUB TIME MACHINE HAS A NEW TRAILER

02.11.10 Written by Vince Mancini

I’ve already posted the red-band trailer, the green band trailer, the official teaser, the Thanksgiving Day clip and God knows what else for this movie, but now there’s a new one out and why the hell not. A lot of people on the internet are all “Wah, this looks like the same old corny 80s jokes,” or “Wah, it’s just another gimmicky premise,” or “Wah, my bones are becoming warped and pliant from lack of sunlight.”   But screw them.  It’s still called Hot Tub Time Machine, it still looks a lot like the Aspen Timeshare episode of South Park (which was awesome), and that’s enough for me.  Also, is it racist that I can’t help but compare Craig Robinson to Tracy Morgan?   It’s not my fault they’re both husky, hilarious black guys with back-to-back shows on NBC.  You just can’t help but notice some things, like how Puerto Ricans steal.

HOT TUB TIME MACHINE TRAILER: NOW WITH MORE SWEARING

01.22.10 Written by Vince Mancini

HotTubTimeMachine-Young(Totally not what I was expecting when I Googled “John Cusack Young Boy”).

After the jump you can watch the new red-band trailer for Hot Tub Time Machine, which has more swearing and nudity than my mom’s new boyfriend.   You can also see what Rob Corddry, John Cusack, Craig Robinson, and Clark Duke are supposed to look like in the 80s.  Not to mention some sweet John Cusack green screen action.  “Look, grandma, I’m driving a car lol!”  John Cusack probably has a ton of green screen experience after he was in 2012, and from the time he did that music video with Bangs.

HOT TUB TIME MACHINE

12.17.09 Written by Vince Mancini

It’s hard to go wrong with a movie called “Hot Tub Time Machine”, but it’s nice to see they assembled a fun group of actors too.  I love Rob Corddry, but if he played Dane Cook or Matthew McConnaughey’s sidekick in a rom-com one more time, I’d… well, I’d throw a pretty big hissy fit, I don’t mind saying *takes drag of cigarette*.  Anyway, here he’s teamed up with Clark Duke, Craig Robinson (my favorite husky black man besides Tracy Morgan), and John Cusack (who’s hopefully not still being a dick to everyone like he was on the 2012 press tour).

The plot looks a lot like the Aspen Extreme episode of South Park.  They basically go back in time and then party like it’s an 80s ski movie.   Though if it were me and I had access to a time machine, I’d go back to when we were kids and molest all the girls who rejected me.  That way I could go back to the present and they’d either have low enough self-esteem that they’d go out with me or they’d be strippers.  Pretty much a win-win.
