‘FRAGILE’ MISUNDERSTANDS ZOMBIE CONCEPT

10.04.07 Written by Vince Mancini

Eduardo Rodriguez, a name so common it has 11 separate IMDB entries, has signed on to direct Fragile, a name so common it has 15 different entries.  And it’s about zombies, which appear in the title or subtitle of 83 different movies

Based on the graphic novel by Stephano Raffaele, story kicks off after an airborne virus has reduced much of the Earth’s population to feral zombies. A recently undead soldier then teams with a female zombie and a human teenager, racing against time to find a cure before being hunted down by the soldier’s former military unit.

Graphic novel, Jesus, doesn’t anyone read books without pictures anymore?  And "feral zombies"? As opposed to what, genteel zombies?  Not to mention using a zombie protagonist – as Punchface Thunderdog teaches us, zombies are to be exploded. So unless the hero gets fragged five minutes before the credits roll (which would be kind of awesome, actually), do not want!

"’Fragile’ gives me the opportunity to explore the horror we’re used to in the genre but set in a unique post-apocalyptic world where zombies aren’t the monsters anymore,"

Wow, that’s deep, dude.  You won me over.  Must be nice to hang out at the coffee shop without actually having to make the coffee now, huh?  I wouldn’t get too used to it if I were you. [Variety]

SON OF EVEN MORE ZOMBIES VOL. XVII

09.12.07 Written by Vince Mancini

The Weinstein Co. has bought North American and Mexican rights to George Romero's Diary of the Dead.  In related news, whenever I steal stuff, I claim Mexican rights.

"Hey, give me back my crutches!"
"Sorry dude, I called Mexican rights."  (Nerdy aside: Isn't Mexico part of North America?)

The latest sequel to Romero's 1968 horror classic "Night of the Living Dead closed Tuesday night after several offers were considered, including some for video-only distribution. The Weinstein Co. deal includes a theatrical commitment.

I'll be honest, as much as I love zombie movies, I think the genre's really Fred Dursted.  It's been dead for a while, but people keep trying to dig up it's corpse (I punched myself for that one).

*Mainly this was just an excuse to post that picture – courtesy of our friend "Punchface Thunderdog"
