PINEAPPLE EXPRESS HAS ALTERNATE ENDING

01.14.09 Written by Vince Mancini

As you can see, in the alternative ending of Pineapple Express (trailer, review) credits would’ve rolled over a shot of Seth Rogen and James Franco holding hands.  It’s hard not to notice that borderline gay relationships are a recurring theme in Judd Apatow movies. You wonder if he’s worried people will start to talk.  But I think he’s hit on an important universal truth: guys just like hanging out with other guys.  They make great spotters, plus, you can ask them things you could never ask a girl.  Things like, “Hey, bro, how’d you get your arms looking so ripped?” and “Dude, if I had abs like yours I would just die.”

SOME BORING PINEAPPLE EXPRESS OUTTAKES

01.07.09 Written by Vince Mancini

Here’s a clip of some outtakes from Pineapple Express (trailer, review, Huey Lewis theme song) as part of the promotion for the DVD, which comes out today (thanks for sending me a copy, assholes).  To me, making comedy is kind of like making sausage.  I don’t necessarily want to watch what goes in it or see how it’s made, I’d rather wait for the finished product so I can stick it in my ass.  Wait, what?

A SEXMAN DOUBLE REVIEW

09.02.08 Written by Vince Mancini

Our boy Sexman did a double review of Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Express over the weekend. Personally, I don’t think it’s up to his usual journalistic standards. But cut the guy some slack, he’s still getting used to the braces. I only found one Sexman-ism this time:

It was nice to see James Franco not playing an asshole.

DARK KNIGHT DOMINANCE FINALLY RETARDED

08.18.08 Written by Vince Mancini

As widely expected, Tropic Thunder took the top spot at the box office this weekend, taking in $26 million to Dark Knight‘s $16.8 – its first weekend at number two.

The Warner Bros. Batman flick pulled in $16.8 million to raise its total to $471.5 million. "The Dark Knight" passed the original "Star Wars" ($461 million) and now stands as No. 2 on the all-time domestic charts, behind only "Titanic" ($600.8 million).  Warner Bros. expects "The Dark Knight" to top out at about $530 million domestically, said Dan Fellman, the studio’s head of distribution.

Tropic Thunder‘s opening was below the studio’s mid-30s predictions, but it still opened slightly stronger than Pineapple Express last week.  Meanwhile, sadly, a few people were stupid enough to see George Lucas’ latest butt baby, which took third with $15 million.

Families made up two-thirds of the audience for "Clone Wars," Fellman said. "Star Wars" creator George Lucas, who has an executive producer credit on "Clone Wars," intended the movie as an introduction to his "Clone Wars" TV show debuting this fall on the Cartoon Network.  "It was targeted to a specific audience for specific reasons," Fellman said.

That specific audience being people who aren’t too intelligent or picky and those specific reasons being that George Lucas is full of bad ideas and surrounded by people who won’t tell him so.  A gay Hutt?  That’s brilliant, George.  Can I ride the go karts again?

1. "Tropic Thunder," $26 million.

2. "The Dark Knight," $16.8 million.

3. "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," $15.5 million.

4. "Mirrors," $11.1 million.

5. "Pineapple Express," $10 million.

6. "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," $8.6 million.

7. "Mamma Mia!", $6.5 million.

8. "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2," $5.9 million.

9. "Step Brothers," $5 million.

10. "Vicky Cristina Barcelona," $3.7 million.

THE DARK KNIGHT WINS AGAIN

08.11.08 Written by Vince Mancini

The Dark Knight was number one at the box office for the fourth week in a row this weekend, earning $26 million to Pineapple Express’ $22.4.  The last movie to win four weeks in a row was Lord of the Rings: Return of the King in 2003.  The Dark Knight is now the third highest-grossing film of all time, behind Titanic and the original Star Wars, and should pass Star Wars by this weekend. Nikki Finke says:

The incredible repeat business for Batman is mostly the work of fanboys who want their fave pic to keep setting movie records. But it’s still a long way behind Titanic‘s best-ever $600.7M.

In the fourth weekend?  I think she’s stretching the limits of the word "mostly" there, but whatever.  In other news, George Lucas’ wife promised to pay him $10 every time he remembers to flush the toilet after shitting.  He was excited because that’s enough for like two happy meals.

(weekend numbers after the jump)

1. "The Dark Knight," $26 million.

2. "Pineapple Express," $22.4 million.

3. "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor," $16.1 million.

4. "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2," $10.8 million.

5. "Step Brothers," $8.9 million.

6. "Mamma Mia!", $8.1 million.

7. "Journey to the Center of the Earth," $4.9 million.

8. "Hancock," $3.3 million.

9. "Swing Vote," $3.1 million.

10. "WALL-E," $3 million.
