KRISTEN STEWART AS JOAN JETT

06.12.09 Written by Vince Mancini

Hey look, everyone, it’s Kristen Stewart disguised as Joan Jett for The Runaways.  You can tell she’s Joan Jett ’cause of the lesbian hair and shirt with a guitar on it. You see, in film, t-shirts are an integral part of creating a well-rounded character.  In a single glance you can oftentimes tell a guy is a bricklayer, and all because he’s wearing a tank top with a picture of a trowel on it.  Such is the magic of cinema. Gosh, I wonder if Kristen Stewart will play this role as broody and complex.  Such an actress.  Such a talent.

PEOPLE FIRED UP ABOUT KEVIN SMITH’S DICKS

06.04.09 Written by Vince Mancini

The first pictures of Tracy Morgan and Bruce Willis in A Couple of Dicks, which is directed but not written by Kevin Smith, hit the web yesterday.  I didn’t post them, because I don’t usually get that excited about promo stills, but that’s was before I read this thrilling analysis by FirstShowing.  Now I realize I was wrong.

It really can’t get any better than this! So here’s the crazy setup for the photo. In a scene from Kevin Smith’s new comedy A Couple of Dicks, which is currently shooting in New York, Tracy Morgan, who plays a cop, gets chased down by a pit bull while wearing a cell phone costume while riding a giant tricycle. I can’t believe this photo is real and it’s actually a scene being shot for Kevin Smith’s movie. This is one of those photos you usually see on CollegeHumor.com, not in a movie. Based off of this alone, I’m already sold on the movie! I just love the look on Morgan’s face, like his life depends on how fast he can peddle away.

I’m really excited for this now too!  I think the mushrooms are finally kicking in!  OMG feel this carpet!  I wonder how they make stuff!

WAIT, WHY IS DENZELL IN ‘THE ROAD’? OH…

05.27.09 Written by Vince Mancini

USA Today has a new batch of pictures of Denzell Washington in The Book of Eli, from the Hughes Brothers (who, unlike the Coen brothers, are actual brothers – the cool kind).  If the pictures look familiar, it’s because this movie is a lot like The Road.

In a post-apocalyptic world, a lone hero (Washington) guards the Book of Eli, which provides knowledge that could redeem society. The despot of a small, makeshift town (Oldman) plans to take possession of the book. [Wiki]

In this frame, says co-director Allen Hughes, Elie comes upon a fork in the road. “Eli’s iPod has run out of juice and to the right is the road that leads into Carnagie’s (Gary Oldman) town.  Eli makes the decision to go into town, power up his iPod and refill his canteen.” [USA Today - a few more pictures there]

And the script was written by the editor-in-chief of PC Gamer, which is perfect because video game concepts are like movie concepts that have been warmed over and generalized. Now if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go into town and power up my wrist for a dismissive wank.  A dismissive wank that will post the apocalypse.

NIC CAGE IS PROUD OF WICKER MAN

05.26.09 Written by Vince Mancini

FilmDrunkard Brian sent over these pictures of Nic Cage’s trailer from the set of The Sorcerer’s Apprentice in New York.  Brian writes:

I was happy to see that he lists “The Wicker Man” with pride on the side of his big ass Airstream trailer. Proof positive he values his role as a sexist bear over that Raising Arizona bullsh*t everybody raves about.

Brian raises an interesting point – this seems like an odd cross section of Nic Cage credits, especially if you wanted to make him feel like a big star.  I thought the trailer painter guy must have been having a laugh until I realized these are all movies Nic Cage produced.  Does anyone even remember Next?

“A Las Vegas magician who can see into the future is pursued by FBI agents seeking to use his abilities to prevent a nuclear terrorist attack.”

Come clean now, guys, that’s a fake IMDB entry someone created just to F with me, right?  No way he’s played this many people who know magic.

MOTION CAPTURE STILL LOOKS WEIRD

05.18.09 Written by Vince Mancini

LatinoReview (they also have the poster) just debuted this first still from Robert Zemeckis’ A Christmas Carol, starring Jim Carrey, or at least, the digitized version of Jim Carrey.  For all the talk of how motion-capture has come a long way since the zombie-eye days of Polar Express, it still looks creepy, and not in a good way.  I just don’t understand paying Jim Carrey $10 million dollars to act and then having a team of Indians in a basement somewhere recreate his facial expressions.  But then what do I know, I’m just a guy who lights up the room with his smile.
