‘Young Adult’ has Patton Oswalt and a small dog

10.06.11 Written by Vince Mancini

After the jump, I’ve got the trailer for Young Adult, the new film from Diablo Cody and Jason Reitman. A lot of people still like to sh*t on Diablo Cody, and I can kiiinda see why, but I thought her recent response to Bobcat Goldthwait was dead on (“Dear Bobcat: Juno is my growly voice.”). Also, Jason Reitman rules.

Theron plays Mavis Gary, a writer of teen literature who returns to her small hometown to relive her glory days and attempt to reclaim her happily married high school sweetheart (Patrick Wilson). When returning home proves more difficult than she thought, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate (Patton Oswalt) who hasn’t quite gotten over high school, either.

Patton Oswalt and Johnny Knoxville play brothers

08.22.11 Written by Vince Mancini

Patton Oswalt and Johnny Knoxville are set to play feuding brothers (“squabbling sibs”, as Deadline puts it) in an untitled comedy executive produced by David Gordon Green. It’s virtually guaranteed to be really funny because Johnny Knoxville is tall and skinny and Patton Oswalt is short and chubby — classic comedy recipe! I’m guessing Patton plays the rich, pompous womanizer and Knoxville the shy-but-goodhearted, D&D-loving shut-in, but I’ve been wrong before.

The untitled comedy will be directed by Todd Rohal and financed by Marc Turtletaub and Peter Saraf’s Big Beach Films. Knoxville and Oswalt will play battling brothers who attempt to honor their ailing father by taking a troop of boys on a camping trip. It all goes awry. Rob Riggle, Maura Tierney and Patrice O’Neal also star. Rohal, who originally wrote the script under the title Scout Master, most recently directed The Catechism Cataclysm. Production on the new comedy starts this week. [Deadline]

I’d rather watch a five-hour collection of Patton Oswalt’s Five-Second Films, but I suppose this’ll do. And I have faith that Johnny Knoxville can break the once-co-starred-opposite-Jessica-Simpson curse. Here’s a brief list of some of her other co-stars:

Patton Oswalt made another 5-second film! What God did I please?

07.13.11 Written by Vince Mancini

Following up on his award-winning short, “Crabwalkin‘”, here’s Patton Oswalt starring in a brand-new five-second film, “You Got Mail,” in which he plays the neighborhood mailman. If Patton was my mailman, I’d probably kidnap him and feed him Otter pops until he revealed his secrets. But then, I say that about everything.  Hey, while we’re on the subject, how come otter pops aren’t shaped like shrimp, or abalone shells? Or maybe instead of a frozen juice tube, they should be a treat that you have to break open with a small rock and eat on your tummy. I mean have some respect for your theme, am I right? Boy, this post spiraled out of control fast, didn’t it.

Crabwalkin’: A 5-Second Film Starring Patton Oswalt

07.06.11 Written by Vince Mancini

Here’s a five-second film called “Crabwalkin’” starring my favorite actor/comedian/person, Patton Oswalt. Expertly shot, beautifully acted, and breathtakingly self-explanatory, it should be required viewing for all aspiring film students.  Watch this, friend, and you may know suspense.

Yes, crabs walk sideways, but Patton is playing a BIZARRO-EARTH MUTANT SIDEWAYS CRAB, OBVIOUSLY.
