This Week in Posters: Diagonals Galore

Written by Vince Mancini / 02.13.13

THIS WEEK IN POSTERS: Not that they ever left, but diagonal horizon lines are back in a big way this week. In addition, we’ve got Iron Man, new Stephenie Meyer, a motion poster, and more!

Big Ass Spider!: I believe this movie and poster design is called “the direct approach.” “Yeah, so our movie is called Big Ass Spider! and it’s about a big ass spider.” That’s a great elevator pitch.

I’d like to know what plane of existence that ambulance is driving on, but I assume that will be explained. Perhaps it’s some kind of campy Escher painting.

Brian DePalma’s ‘Passion’ Has A Trailer Now

Written by Ashley Burns / 08.24.12

Close talkers, am I right?

Last we checked in on Brian DePalma and his highly anticipated Crime d’amour remake, Passion, Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace were on the poster and totally about to make out. We were all like, “BROS!” and there was crazy high-fiving going on. Anywho, T-Bag, Black Steve, Asian Kurt, P-Rod and the rest of the bros at the quad can chill, because not only are there stills that prove that McAdams and Rapace are going to make out, but there’s a brand new trailer that suggests there will be so much more.

After the jump, you can check out the trailer for Passion and probably go order your tickets in advance. Hell, we should just rent out an entire theater now and all wear our FilmDrunk shirts. I still need to get mine back from Fred Willard.

Rachel McAdams’ ‘Passion’ Looks Fantastic

Written by Ashley Burns / 05.16.12

Brian DePalma has been pretty quiet since releasing The Black Dahlia in 2006, with his Iraq War protest film Redacted being his most recent work. But he’s returning with a heavy hitter this year in Passion, the remake of the 2010 French film Crime d’amour, starring Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace.

All right, what’s this little gem all about now?

The offices of a prominent multinational corporation is the setting for this story of a power struggle between two contemporary women. Isabelle has unlimited admiration for her direct superior, Christine, a woman well-schooled in the ways of power. Christine enjoys holding sway over Isabelle, leads her one step at a time and ever more deeply into a game of seduction and manipulation, of dominance and servitude. The game is played for keeps, and there is no turning back. (Via Coming Soon)

McAdams plays Christine to Rapace’s Isabelle, and the former steals her subordinates ideas, leading Isabelle into a murderous rage or something like that. I’ll be honest, I fainted after “seduction and manipulation” and then my head exploded Scanners-style when I saw the movie’s poster.

This Week in Posters and Stills: Apatow characters be poopin’, Madea gets Levy

Written by Vince Mancini / 05.09.12

Knocked Up Number Two!

Here’s the first poster for Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up spinoff, This is 40, starring Leslie Mann and Paul Rudd (trailer here). If I’m not mistaken, this image is a reverse of the scene in Knocked Up where Leslie Mann is taking a dump while Paul Rudd brushes his teeth. And then of course there’s the famous poop scene in Bridesmaids, a scene supposedly championed by Bridesmaids producer, you guessed it, Judd Apatow. Because to Judd Apatow, marriage means someone’s always taking a poop.

Though the iPad part does hit a little close to home. Does the iPad have a taking-a-dump setting where you can hold it flat on your lap without the picture trying to reorient? It really should. “iPad: It’s the shitter newspaper of the future!”
