Ah, the old nutshot in the trailer (2:28). Where have we seen that before?

Back in the heady days of aught four, aught five, Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn were the hot young comic actors in Hollywood, just a couple of fresh faced young prodigies churning out success after success. But, like the Tenenbaum children, Owen and Vince went their own direction for a few years, and sort of lost their way. Owen had a breakdown a la Richie, and Vince just sort of got lazier and lazier until Couples Retreat happened. They both must’ve done some soul searching and realized they were never as good as when they were together, so now they’re back under one roof, so to speak, with The Internship. It’s directed by Shawn Levy, who’s not really known for comedy, unless you count Date Night, or Cheaper by the Dozen, which I don’t, but then Wedding Crashers director David Dobkin doesn’t have a lot of other sterling credits either. The important thing is that they’re a couple of grown men acting like college kids again – first frat guys, then wedding crashers, and now, with a fish-out-of-water twist: interns at Google.

Clearly, the hook is getting 30 and 40-something dudes into a situation where they have to do college/early adulthood stuff. Here are some other ideas we’ve been kicking around:

After the jump, you can watch the trailer for McG’s This Means War, starring Tom Hardy and Chris Pine as two CIA super spies who are best of friends until one day, (*RECORD SCRATCH*) they realize they’re both dating Reese Witherspoon (*SAD TROMBONE*). Then they tear the city apart in high-octane, cutesy gun battles over her. (Because that’s totally what dudes do! Men be fightin’ over women be shoppin’ LOL!). And as an ADDED BONUS, Chelsea Handler plays Reese’s saucy, slutty best friend, Sassy Snarkington. SWEET MERCIFUL JESUS, WHAT GOD DID I PLEASE??

I guess our video editor, Oliver Noble, felt bad for his last mash up, The Golden Age of Broad Smacking (which featured, among other things, Ronald Reagan slappin’ down a bitch like she was Granada), because he just made this one, featuring various womyn exercising their discontent with patriarchal oppression through righteous groin punts (this is his second compilation of nutshots, in case you were keeping score).  Proving once again that the Coen Brothers just do everything better, my favorite would have to be Dan Hedaya (veteran ‘that guy’) in Blood Simple at the 49-second mark, mainly on account of the post-nutshot puke closeup.  It’s just not an effective groin strike if it doesn’t induce vomiting.  Any sensei will tell you that.

I wouldn't mind it if Kristen Wiig touched me like that. Just sayin. 'Specially if she was doin her Bjork impression.

It was only yesterday that I was explaining why Paul, starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, from director Greg Mottola, was one of my most anticipated films of the year.  “It looks like an homage to weird 80s movies, Greg Mottola always does an amazing job capturing the spirit of 80s movies, and blah blah blah,” I said.

Now the full-length trailer is out, and I look like an idiot!  The thing’s chock-full of nutshots!  I’m already on record as saying that nutshots in the trailer are the kiss of death!  (For a comedy, anyway. In a Holocaust drama, each shot to the nuts in the trailer increases my desire to see the film by 30%).  Boy, is there egg on my face.  I still want to see this, it looks weird as hell.  But what of the nutshots?   This theory is very important to me.  Perhaps we could label  this old “exception that proves the rule.”  That phrase never made much sense to me before.  I think what happened was, the guy who invented it had come up with a theory, like nutshots in the trailer always making for a bad movie, and then someone publicly disproved it.  So he was all like, “No, see, the exception to the rule makes the rule EVEN MORE true!”  Then I bet he tossed a smoke grenade and dove out the window.  That’s what I would do.

In Real Steel, from the director of Night at the Museum, Hugh Jackman trains robots to box, which is one of the more ridiculous premises I’ve ever heard.  But once I found out Kevin Durand was in it, my skepticism melted away like an icicle in my butt.  Anyway, this one’s about a robot who Hugh Jackman finds in a trash heap that always seems to win.  It’s basically the Seabiscuit of robot boxing movies.  Haha, I just typed that.  And then at the 1:07 mark, the robot punches the other robot in the crotch.  (*rings oversized bell*) NUT SHOT IN THE TRAILER!!! NUT SHOT IN THE TRAILER!!! (*runs around room with arms above head*)

Oh, and then Hugh Jackman shouts, “BRING IT!”

Silly Human. It. Has already been. Broughten. Bleep borp.
