Silent dog farts are THE WORST.

If you’ve read the headline, you know this week sees the DVD releases of both Hotel Transylvania as well as the latest Paranormal Activity flick, Paranormal Activity 4.  If you recognize the banner image, you also know that Seven Psychopaths hits DVD today as well.  Good for you.  Of course, there’s plenty of other flicks to talk about: there’s films with Bruce Willis and Tim Roth, and films about superheroes both well-known and unknown.  We’ve got films about ghosts and hitmen and terrorists and vampires, and even one about a little girl with the power to heal through touch.  All that and still more ghosts and vampires.  What an exciting week for DVD.

This Week in Posters was postponed last week, but now it’s here! I suppose it’s kind of a “last week in posters” now, but better late than never, right? Don’t answer that.

First up, Michael Bay’s Pain and Gain. Okay, this is a pretty fantastic poster. Not that I imagine it’s very difficult to communicate a Michael Bay plot in a single image, but this one pretty much nails it. A couple a dudes, just gettin’ pumped and shredded in front of old glory. It brings a tear to my eye. Still, asking Mark Wahlberg to play a bodybuilder and then casting a guy opposite him who’s six foot five is borderline cruel. Regardless, I’m excited to see The Rock and Marky Mark get the same borderline-porny Michael Bay treatment as the Transformers girls. I’m envisioning a nice peekaboo shot up Wahlberg’s weightlifting shorts like the Megan Fox car scene while he’s doing so wicked tricep extensions. “Hey, Dawnny! You seen my chawklit flavahed mass gainah?” (*swooping crane shot of washboard abs*)

Later this year, the beloved cult classic Clerks will turn 18-years old, and while it will be old enough to vote and fight for our country, it still won’t be able to buy beer. Luckily, the film introduced us to two characters who redefined loitering and convenience store hijinks – Jay and Silent Bob. Played by Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith, the pot-smoking duo has earned a glorious status as a generation’s greatest slackers, but their best days are behind them, as they took a bow, fittingly, in 2006’s Clerks 2.

That doesn’t mean that the legend is dead, though. Mewes and Smith have been traveling the world for their new live show, “Jay and Silent Bob Get Old,” and they’ve given their devoted fanboys an opportunity to relive their glory days with never-before-told stories from their past films like Mallrats, Dogma, Chasing Amy and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. And they’re still coming back for more… kind of. Jay and Silent Bob will once again swing their socks full of quarters in the upcoming animated feature, Jay and Silent Bob’s Super Groovy Cartoon Movie, for which Mewes will earn his first producer’s credit.

Mewes also has plenty of other projects in the pipeline, from indie film starring roles to his first directing gig, too. Busy or not, he was kind enough to spend a minute or 30 with me on the phone after he returned home from a brief European tour, filling me in on Jay growing old and, of course, the Tao of “Snoochie boochies.” (Warning: There be some curse words beyond these parts…)
