A man shot during a Black Swan screening Saturday, which wouldn’t be news in and of itself, what with all the lesbian ballerina action. The surprising part is that he used a gun and the bullet killed a guy.

Police said they had arrested a 27-year-old man suspected of shooting a 42-year-old fellow audience member who later died of his wounds.

The conflict took place as the credits rolled during a screen of the Oscar-nominated film “Black Swan”, according to police in the Baltic state.
Witnesses told the Latvian news agency Leta that it arose over how loudly the deceased man was eating his popcorn.

Gun-crime is relatively rare in Latvia, a European Union nation of 2.2 million.

The shooting occurred on Saturday evening in the central multiplex cinema in the Latvian capital, Riga, at the end of the psychological thriller. [Telegraph]

Man, frickin Latvians, am I right?  Always eating loud and shooting each other and yelling at the screen during movies.  Wait, that’s Latvians, right?

The body of 33-year-old swimsuit designer Sylvie Cachay (pictured, center) was found dead in a New York hotel Thursday, and now her boyfriend, Nick Brooks, 24, is being charged with the killing.  Brooks is the son of Oscar-winning composer Joseph Brooks, who a year ago was charged with 11 separate casting-couch rapes.  Even worse, he composed the 1977 hit “You Light Up My Life.”

Police discovered Cachay, whose designs were a celebrity favorite, at the Soho House club and hotel, according to a New York police spokesman.
Brooks was Cachay’s boyfriend, according to WABC. Cachay’s body sustained bruising on the neck and bite marks, and was found clothed in the hotel room bathtub, the spokesman said. Brooks’ lawyer told WABC he didn’t believe the two were in the process of breaking up.

An autopsy indicated that the designer suffered injuries that were consistent with neck compression. Cachay suffered internal hemorrhaging, injuries to her scalp and cuts to her lips and mouth, court records show. [CNN]

Skylar DeLeon, who had a bit part on Power Rangers and suffered the dual indignity of being both a former child actor and named ‘Skylar,’ was sentenced to death on Friday. He was convicted of killing a retired yacht-owning couple and another man he met on a work furlough program in a separate incident.  You may also remember DeLeon as the guy who “tried to saw off his own penis.”

During the trial, the court heard how Deleon and two other men, John F. Kennedy [Why would you name your kid that?] and Alonso Machain, had sailed out with the victims from Newport Harbor in November 2004 for what the unsuspecting couple believed was a test run. Deleon and his cohorts had been posing as prospective buyers of the yacht.

Once out at sea, the three men overpowered the couple, handcuffing them and covering their eyes and mouths with duct tape before forcing them to sign and fingerprint title transfer documents for the yacht.  Machain, who testified for the prosecution, told how the terrified couple were then tied to the boat’s anchor and lowered into the sea. Their bodies were never found. Machain and Kennedy face trials at a later date [Kennedy was convicted, and is due for sentencing next month].

Defense attorney Gary Pohlson had asked jurors to spare his client’s life, arguing that Deleon was abused by a drug-dealing father who left him predisposed to violence. He declined to comment after the sentencing. [AFP, AOL]

Jeez, man, he tried to cut off his own dick – what’s a guy gotta do to get an insanity verdict these days?  In any case, this is all the more reason to lock up Ace Ventura Jr. now as a preventative measure, while he’s still too weak to overpower yacht owners.

Most people know Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan often collaborates on scripts with his brother, Jonathan.  But apparently, they have another brother Matthew no one likes to talk about…

Matthew Francis Nolan, 40 was under investigation by Chicago Police in a $700,000 bank-fraud scheme when FBI agents here nabbed him last month in connection with a 2005 killing in Central America.
Nolan is wanted in Costa Rica in the kidnapping and murder of Florida businessman Robert C. Cohen.
Authorities said Nolan pretended he was interested in doing business in Costa Rica when the two met in a hotel. But his real mission was to recover $7million Cohen owed another Florida man.
An accomplice kidnapped Cohen and the men tried to extort the money from Cohen’s family; but when that failed, they killed Cohen, Costa Rican authorities said.
Matthew Nolan’s alleged accomplice, Douglas Mejia, has been convicted. Nolan is being held here awaiting extradition proceedings. [Chicago SunTimes]

See, this is why I’m glad I don’t have any brothers. As soon as you taste a little success they run off to South America and start killing people. I used to want a brother, but now I see that I’d much rather just have a group of cool black dudes to hang with.
