WEEKEND PREVIEW: EDDIE DOES IT AGAIN

06.12.09 Written by Vince Mancini

Opening this weekend:

Imagine That
Eddie Murphy stars in a movie that’s already been made 15 or 16 times.  And that’s just in the last five years.  I smell another huge bomb.  It’s a trick I learned from bomb-sniffing dogs.

Taking of Pelham 1 2 3
John Travolta and Denzell Washington’s train kidnapping movie (it’s a remake).  It’s possible it’s really good and I’m just missing out, but it just seems like the kind of movie I’ll eventually see on a plane.

Food Inc. (NY, LA, SF)
Documentary about the food industry, only playing in LA at the moment.  It’ll tell you all about modern chickens and their comically oversized breasts.

Moon (NY and LA)
Sam Rockwell plays a man sent to the moon for a one-year mission with his only company a computer who converses in emoticons.  Is it just me, or does every hipster look a little like Sam Rockwell.

DUNCAN ZOWIE & SAM GO TO THE MOON

04.10.09 Written by Vince Mancini

Moon, directed by a guy whose name I sh*t you not is “Duncan Zowie Heywood Jones” and starring Sam Rockwell, is the ever elusive sci-fi indie film, about a three-year, one-man mission to the moon to mine Helium-3, which has become Earth’s primary source of energy.  Naturally that one man is Sam Rockwell, looking like a crazy homeless person again.  His only company is a computer who’s basically like HAL, but with smiley face emoticons.  Strangely, the emoticons actually make it seem more empathetic.  Something to remember next time you have to dump someone via text message.  “It’s not working out :-(   It’s not you, it’s me.  Looks like I have some issues to work through :-S I’ll really miss 3===> (|) ”

LIMAN AND GYLLENHAAL MOON EACH OTHER

10.09.07 Written by Vince Mancini

Doug loves breasts, Jake prefers scarves

Doug Liman (Go, Swingers) is set to direct Jake Gyllenhaal in Untitled Moon Project.  Liman co-wrote the script with John Hamburg (Along Came Polly) before Mark Bowden (Killing Pablo, Blackhawk Down) was brought on to rewrite.

Loosely based on the space race among private companies, the movie revolves "around the private expedition to the moon and the race for lunar colonization."

That reminds me of the time when Poland wanted to send their astronauts to the sun.  They planned to avoid burning up by traveling at night! LOL silly Polacks! I also heard like a thousand of them screwed in a lightbulb one time! >:-D

Production will begin after Gyllanhaal finishes Brothers, his asexual love triangle movie with Tobey Maguire and Natalie Portman.  Liman’s working on Knight Rider for NBC and a movie called Jumper, which I really hope is about that one Third Eye Blind song. Omg they’re like the best!
