TRAILER: ‘Pacific Rim’ is Robot Jox vs. Godzilla, apparently

Written by Vince Mancini / 12.13.12

I’ve mostly been bored with Guillermo Del Toro’s post-Pan’s Labyrinth output, and the guy makes like 12 movies a year so it can be hard to keep up (he has EIGHTEEN in development credits on IMDB)… BUT, having seen this latest trailer for Pacific Rim… well, I’m listening. I’d sort of tuned out all the viral marketing crap for it (because viral marketing always feels like two ad guys jerking each other off), but things might have been different if they’d simply told me it was about ROBOT JOX FIGHTING GODZILLA. (Man, who knew Robot Jox would go on to become so influential, huh?) It’s hard to impress people with scale anymore, now that we’ve all seen the Eiffel Tower get destroyed in six trillion Roland Emmerich trailers, but I must say, I was impressed by the scale of this one. Or maybe it was the robots fighting sea monsters that did it. You know what? I might be overthinking this. Opens July 12.

Frotcast 23: White Dog, 127 Hours with Laremy

Written by Vince Mancini / 11.18.10

JamesFranco-127hours-BirthdayDog-podcast

This week might be our most movie reviewing-est Frotcast yet.  After we get through our righteous moral outrage over the Four Loko ban (F*CK YOU, NANNY STATE, IMPEACH SCHUMER), we bring on Laremy from Film.com to talk White Dog, 127 Hours, Monsters, Tucker Max’s movie, and more.  He LOVES 127 Hours!  I DON’T!  Chaos ensues!  It’s great podcasting!  (Seriously though, we think it’s pretty listenable.  If you like it, tell a friend or four).  And mysterious emailer “Cody”, claim your t-shirt.

The new trailer round up

Written by Vince Mancini / 08.18.10

Here’s a handy guide to the new trailers released the last few days.

Vanishing on 7th Street (above)
Brad Anderson’s Vanishing on 7th Street is set to play at the Toronto Film Festival as part of their midnight madness program.  It stars Hayden Christensen so it’ll probably be really good.

Upon waking to find the city they live in devoid of human life, a group of survivors seek refuge in an old bar to protect themselves from a dark threat.

I call it “28 Wanks Later.”  [via /Film]

Love and Other Drugs (below)
We saw the first trailer for Edward Zwick’s rom-com starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, and Not Jonah Hill a few days ago, and it looked like just about the most generic rom-com ever.  The latest trailer shows us that it’s more than a generic rom-com, it’s a film about a girl with Parkinson’s disease, and Jake Gyllenhaal can’t save her because he only sells boner pills ;-(
