Buffalo TV station apologizes for using Seal picture to report Michael Clarke Duncan’s death

Written by Vince Mancini / 09.05.12

Holy crap, this is real? Yep. A Buffalo local news station is apologizing after their chyron read “MICHAEL CLARK DUNCAN DEAD AT 54″ over two separate pictures of Seal in a video package.

Buffalo NBC affiliate WGRZ has issued an apology after mistakenly airing photos of musician Seal while reporting on the death of Michael Clarke Duncan on Monday evening. The station reported on Duncan’s death during Monday’s 11 p.m. newscast. During the segment, a short video of Duncan at various red carpet events aired; toward the tail end of the story, the clip switched to still photos, which were all of Seal.

A statement posted on the WGRZ Facebook page reads:

Yep; our bad; we own it. A careless editing error at the end of the Michael Clarke Duncan story in our 11pm news. Two entertainment stories accidentally merged into one video clip. Sincere apologies. [MediaBistro]

Deadspin even has the video of it. Not that I blame poor WGRZ. One bald black guy is named Michael Clarke Duncan, another bald black guy is named Seal… who can keep track these days? I bet that one guy isn’t even really a seal.

Aw, thank God for screw ups like this. Without them, I wouldn’t know local news still existed.

Michael Clarke Duncan dead at 54

Written by Vince Mancini / 09.03.12

Sorry to bum you guys out on your holiday, but Michael Clarke Duncan has died. He was as far as I’ve ever heard a super nice guy and always seemed pretty healthy, which makes this kind of scary as well as sad.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – Michael Clarke Duncan’s fiancee says the Oscar nominee for The Green Mile has died while being hospitalized following a July heart attack.

Publicist Joy Fehily released a statement from Clarke’s fiancée, the Rev. Omarosa Manigault [Wait, she's a reverend now?-Ed], saying the 54-year-old actor died Monday morning in a Los Angeles hospital after nearly two months of treatment following the July 13 heart attack.

The 6-foot-5, 300-pound Duncan appeared in dozens of films, including such box office hits as Armageddon, Planet of the Apes and Kung Fu Panda. [USAToday]

He was also great in Slammin’ Salmon, which makes me wish he’d gotten to do more comedy. This sucks. At the very least he could’ve done us the courtesy of getting fat or becoming a comedian before he died so we could’ve prepared ourselves for this a little better. It should also be noted that the guy managed to get engaged to a fairly-infamous reality TV villain without anyone even knowing about it until he died, which is as good of proof as any that he wasn’t some obnoxious, fame-whoring piece of sh*t like half the other people in LA. Bummer.

Michael Clarke Duncan Had A Heart Attack… Is Dating Omarosa?

Written by Ashley Burns / 07.13.12

Really?

Actor Michael Clarke Duncan was found unresponsive at his home last night some time before 2 a.m., after he suffered an apparent heart attack and went into cardiac arrest. Fortunately, his girlfriend, Apprentice star Omarosa Stallworth, found him and was able to save his life in time.

We’re told Omarosa performed CPR and was able to resuscitate the 54-year-old.

MCD was transported to a nearby hospital where he was immediately admitted to the ICU.

Sources tell us … Duncan’s heart rate is now stable and Omarosa is by his side. Doctors are performing tests to figure out why the actor’s heart stopped in the first place. (Via TMZ)

For starters, thank goodness. MCD is a seemingly great guy, and he makes great movies – Green Mile, Sin City, Talladega Nights, among others (we’ll ignore Street Fighter while he’s recovering). But holy crap, when did MCD start dating Omarosa? I feel like I should have known that, like they should be a more prominent couple, and she’d be running around Hollywood and all over TV reminding everyone that they’re dating.

But hell, she should now. She just saved the dude’s life. Drink it in, this might be the only time that I ever say this – Damn, Omarosa is a hero.

TRAILER FOR SUPER TROOPERS GUYS’ NEW MOVIE

Written by Vince Mancini / 11.09.09

Broken Lizard, the comedy team from Colgate U. behind Super Troopers, Club Dread, and Beerfest, have a new movie coming out December 11th, The Slammin’ Salmon.  It stars Michael Clarke Duncan as a former boxing champ who offers $10,000 to the waiter who can sell the most fish at his restaurant. Then he threatens hilarity to ensue or else he’ll punch it in the stomach. Will hilarity comply???  Anyway, it looks like it could either be really funny or really stupid, I’m guessing both.

Haha, “how are you feline.” Because they’re cats, get it? It’s funny ’cause I want to hug them.

SUPER TROOPERS GUYS’ NEW MOVIE

Written by Vince Mancini / 01.07.09

Michael Clarke Duncan day on FilmDrunk continues with the trailer for Broken Lizard’s Slammin’ Salmon, so grab yourself a Quizno’s flatbread sammy and enjoy.  For those of you not in the know, Broken Lizard is the comedy team that shot to fame with Super Troopers, then decided they wanted to go to Hawaii and hang out with naked chicks all day and made Club Dread.  Then they made Beerfest, a movie about drinking games.  Their movies are stupid (save for the some scenes in Super Troopers which were legitimately brilliant), but sort of endearingly stupid.  Like, that joke sucked, but I do respect that you didn’t try very hard.

The premise of this one is that former boxing champ Cleon Salmon is offering $10,000 to the top-selling waiter in a one-night-only contest at his restaurant.  Sounds great, but I wish Farva would go back to acting like Farva.
