DRAGONBALL LOOKS AMAZING, ROR!

12.10.08 Written by Vince Mancini

The full trailer for Dragonball, er, Dragonball Evolution has hit the web. As expected from a Fox project starring a former Real World cast member, it doesn’t look great.  In fact, it looks like a Sci-Fi channel original, or one of those scenes from the old Power Rangers cartoons that were clearly shot in Japan in the 80s and then spliced into the show, but never full overcame the translation barrier.  It has plenty of wire fighting, but it looks like they stole some moves from the WWE.  Come on, tell me this isn’t a drop kick.  But all in all, looks great. Almost as if it was created “not by man, but by Gods fwom da skai.”

THE NON-BOOTLEG DRAGONBALL TEASER

10.03.08 Written by Vince Mancini

Another high-quality Fox production

Chow Yun-Fat is really mailing it in in the new Dragonball teaser.  “Seven Dwagonballs must be found, for all man’s fate will be bound,” he starts, and then later mumbles something about a “Fwophecy.” Can you really blame him though?  He’s starring opposite a white kid with a pikachu haircut and some chick who used to be on The Real World San Diego.  They probably aren’t paying him enough to remember he can speak English. DRAGONBALL MOVIE MIGHT GET S-CANNED

08.25.08 Written by Vince Mancini

An anonymous tipster to a site I’d never heard of is reporting that the Fox is considering shutting down Dragonball Z in mid production.

According to our tipster, the higher-ups at Fox are not too impressed the footage that has been shot thus far, and are seriously debating shutting the whole thing down. Now I have no idea if this is a real possibility or if the studio is just putting pressure on director James Wong to deliver, but the movie supposedly has a budget of over $100 million and I can understand them wanting to cut some losses while they still can.  The thing is, if this is all true, it only makes me that much more interested to see the movie. If it it’s strange enough to scare the suits, it’s gotta be good, right? [Source]

They spent $100 million on Dragonball Z?  On what?  It sure didn’t go towards the poster.  And there’s no one I’ve ever heard of in it, so unless that chick from The Real World has a really good agent, they didn’t spend it on personnel. I think if we do a little digging we’ll find that these "suits" are carrying briefcases full of potato chips.  I picture the exec in charge of this riding to work on a mule, and sometimes the mule stops and he has to get off and push the mule from behind to make it go and then mule takes two steps forward and he falls in the dirt.

MORE COMICALLY BAD DRAGONBALL PICS

And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for, publicity stills from the Dragonball Z movie.  One of them features a former Real World castmember (Jamie Chung, San Diego).  Another looks like a picture from the calendar at the Chinese restaurant where I used to work.  And of course, the star is a white guy.  It’s a good thing they gave him an angular haircut and a shirt with Asian characters on it, otherwise we might never know he’s supposed to be Asian.  Just to be on the safe side, they should make him squint a lot and promise to love me a long time.

DRAGONBALLZ IS A HIGH CLASS PRODUCTION

12.07.07 Written by Vince Mancini

The Dragonball Z movie, which was already an artsy, high-brow affair by virtue of its educated fan base, just bumped itself up a notch with the casting of former Real World San Diego cast member Jamie Chung.

Jamie, who has since been busy making web-mercials for Passion.com (after the jump), will play Chi Chi. I’m so stoked about this news that I put an extra spoiler on my car and drove around blasting my favorite techno record – the decals make it go faster!

Chi Chi is lifelong love interest of Dragonball hero Goku (Justin Chatwin), and has grown up with him. She has studied martial arts and has always suspected that Goku possesses talents that are unusual and extraordinary. After Goku embarks on his journey to redeem his grandfather’s death, Chi Chi meets up with Goku and his crew at a tournament of champions where their mutual attraction finally heats up during a training session. The most important thing about playing a martial arts expert is being able to look Asian, and Jamie definitely has that going for her.  She may just become the most famous former Real World castmember ever.  Eat your heart out, Puck! Move over, stupid hair guy!
