Kickstart the Frotcast’s Juggalo Vision Quest!

Written by Vince Mancini / 04.23.13

What’s up, you guys. Remember our live Frotcast Kickstarter from last year? Well that turned out great, so this year we’re planning something even better – better for you, the reader/listener, that is: a trip to the Gathering of the Juggalos. From whence we can beam you live reports as we go on our Juggalo Vision Quest fueled by Mama Gypsy and her famous space cakes. Frankly, I’m terrified. Here, I’ll let Ben explain:

Dear Filmdrunk Readers,

I interrupt your regularly scheduled Keanu Photoshops, C-Tates worship, and Jason Statham commentary to bring you this very important news:  Your Editor-in-Chief/Chef Vince, Ben from the Frotcast and Laremy Legel are planning a trip to the 2013 Gathering of the Juggalos to make an epic documentary for your viewing pleasure.

To make this documentary effort a reality, we have started a Kickstarter project to help with the project budget:

This week on the Frotcast, we’re short staffed, with Ben down in Southern California with family and Brendan out at a work function or possibly strung out on heroin. But we make the most of it, bringing on San Francisco comedienne and writer Pam Benjamin, who tells us all about her journey from sheltered Christian girl to divorceé and participant in a GHB-fueled karaoke orgy on a houseboat with a group of porn clowns (note: this is a real thing). We talk a little about the news, like Justin Bieber at the Anne Frank museum, Tyler Perry’s motivational stove, and the police chief who ate his daughter’s entire pot cake. Also, I saw Oblivion, and we talk about that. Cool? Cool.

I thought Pam was lying, but apparently Tyler Perry was indeed on an episode of America’s Next Top Model.

Frotcast 147: Room 237, Tyler Perry’s newsletters, and Laremy

The Frotcast comes a day early this week! This week, we all (ALL of us, can you believe it?) saw Room 237, the documentary on peoples’ insane theories about The Shining. We’re all a bit baffled by its 92% RT rating, as for most of us, it was a powerful, powerful nap aid. If you don’t mind paying $7 for a really restful nap, Room 237 is your movie. At one point, a guy was literally talking about how he saw Stanley Kubrick’s face in a cloud. I’m with Armond on this one. The world is already lousy with asinine opinions, thanks. We also discuss Tyler Perry’s awesome newsletters where he compares your life troubles to turbulence on his private jet, and Laremy shows up to read us some lists. Take your pants down, it’s time to grind boners, Frotcast for life.

Frotcast 146: Late night wars, Stoker, Busta Rhymes’ burger tantrum

Between paying tribute to big Rog and Dan Ozzi’s wonderful exploration of the homoerotic softcore oeuvre of David DeCoteau, I didn’t get a chance to post the Frotcast yesterday. But I’m correcting that right now. This week, Spencer Hall had to cancel, so it was just the four of us. We talked about Jimmy Fallon replacing Jay Leno and the late night format in general. Brendan goes deep into Stoker, and Bret finally saw The Hobbit, which we discuss as well. We answer your reader questions about “Janie Got a Gun” and starting an open mic for comedy (KEEP THOSE QUESTIONS COMIN!), and we discuss some topical stories, such as Busta Rhymes calling everyone a f*g at a burger joint in Miami. Enjoy.

Frotcast 145: Michael Bay, Derek Cianfrance, & the toilet paper revolution of 1880

This week on the Frotcast, we mostly just talked movie news. I know, weird, right? We played a little bit of my interview with Place Beyond the Pines director Derek Cianfrance. We also delved deep into the Comfort Wipe commercial (below), trying to imagine what happened to toilet paper in 1880 that led them to state “toilet paper technology hasn’t changed much since the 1880s.” We talked about Pain and Gain, with Ben in the familiar role of defending Michael Bay (sort of), discussed Ryan Lochte and whether he’s legitimately borderline retarded, and had an in-frotquarters visit from outgoing intern Adam, who says he’s from Rochester even though we’re pretty sure it’s Buffalo.
