Today we’ve got a brand new, red-band trailer for Rare Exports, the Finnish killer Santa Claus movie. (Remember kids, Scandinavians are almost as awesomely crazy as the Japanese).  To recap:

American Christmas Movie:

  • A magic spell turns Tim Allen into Santa Claus.  He gets fat, grows an unshavable beard, saves Christmas, hilarity ensues.

Finnish Christmas Movie:

  • A mining company accidentally unleashes a killer Santa Claus who had been trapped deep inside a mountain for millions of years.  The Santa Claus goes on a killing rampage, until the townspeople lure him into a trap using a severed pig’s head as bait, and decide to hold him for ransom.

Finns hunt killer Santa Klaüs

Written by Vince Mancini / 09.10.10

I posted the first trailer for Rare Exports, the Finnish killer Santa Claus movie, last December, so I forgive you if you’d forgotten about it until now.  The Japanese enjoy a well-deserved reputation for being awesomely weird, but I think you could also make a case for Finns.  They’re like if you took Japanese eccentricity, added German dorkiness, and baked it in six months of darkness.

Anyway, Rare Exports doesn’t have a US release date set yet, but it plays the Toronto Film Festival later this month and they just released this new, slightly longer trailer.  The visuals look awesome and the plot is pretty straightforward: Santa Claus is real, and buried deep beneath the North Pole.  When an American mining company accidentally digs him up, he goes on a kill crazy rampage through Finland.  He’s probably just pissed they ate all his reindeer.  Whackety schmackety (*toilet flush*).

Slow and go out there people, look out for brake lights.

FINNISH PEOPLE HUNT KILLER SANTA CLAUSES

Written by Vince Mancini / 12.07.09

Here on the internet, the Japanese enjoy a well-deserved reputation for being crazy. Too often overlooked are Scandinavians, who are just as crazy, only less squinty. On that note, here’s a Finnish movie about killer Santa Clauses.  Clausen?  Clausi?  Crap, there has to be a way to distinguish between the plural of actual Santas and sh-tty Tim Allen movies.

Writer-director Jalmari Helander built a name for himself in Finland with a string of stellar short films, two of which introduced the masses to the world of Rare Exports – a world where Santas are hunted in the northlands and, none too happy about that, from time to time have been known to fight back.[Twitch]

Here’s another look at that sweet ass logo, and yes, you better believe there was a guy wearing Elvis glasses while A. hunting Santa Claus(es) B. at night. Though if I’m honest, I was a little disappointed at the lack of black metal.
