SEMI-SUBSTANTIVE WATCHMEN VIDEOS

03.02.09 Written by Vince Mancini

With Watchmen (FINALLY) opening this Friday, expect to suffer through the final crescendo of annoying marking bullshit.  NBC, for instance, has a Dr. Manhattan character trailer that’s nice, because it actually tells you something about the character rather than incorporating him into a fake Ovaltine ad from fictional 1967 (you have to watch it here).

“In the late 1950s, ordinary man Jon Osterman was ripped into particles in a science experiment gone horribly wrong. But his consciousness lived on, and he managed to reassemble himself as a true superhuman, a glowing blue model of physical perfection, able to see the future and alter matter all the way down to the subatomic level. His presence profoundly affects not just his fellow heroes, but also global scientific and geopolitical affairs. However, his growing detachment from humanity has frequently left him indifferent to the world and the people around him.”

Wow, he sounds a lot like me. Hey, did you guys know you’re all just figments of my imagination?  It’s true.  So next time something bad happens, don’t fret, it probably just taught me an important lesson.  (There are two more clips from the movie after the jump which I’m not watching)

WATCHMEN TO FEATURE… S&M HITLER?

01.29.09 Written by Vince Mancini

TotalFilm and Empire Magazines are both featuring exclusive batches of new photos from Watchmen today, and I was about to say how bored I am of Watchmen schwag until I came upon this shot of gasmask nazi here. Believe it or not, this is actually a Scientologist’s rendition of “The Last Supper.”

CATCH THE WATCHMEN VIRUS

01.22.09 Written by Vince Mancini

Watchmen (most recent trailer here), which opens March 6th, recently released this fake news report with fake reporter Jim Sizemore on “10 years of Dr. Manhattan” (Billy Crudup).  It’s great if you like stuff that wasn’t important enough to put in the movie.  I like how they can mention two ex-presidents and call them by their real names, but have to make up a fake TV station.  What, are the real ones going to sue?  “NBC is outraged at this vicious slander.  We resent the implication that we would be involved in superhero stories, even if we did exist in a fictional faux reality where superheroes did exist.”

NEW WATCHMEN POSTERS FEATURE… BAT-LIGER?

11.11.08 Written by Vince Mancini

A slew of new Watchmen (trailer here) character posters have hit the web and they’re a lot like the Spirit character posters from a while ago, except about ten times cooler.  My favorite is Malin Akerman as Silk Spectre. “I am used to going out at 3 am and doing something stupid,” she says.  I’m not sure they should be promoting that kind of lifestyle.  I would suggest adding “Sometimes I find condoms in my shit,” to make it more of a cautionary tale.

Hey, is that a Bat Liger?

WATCHMEN TRAILER: SOMETHING FOR THE LADIES

10.28.08 Written by Vince Mancini

I didn’t notice this when I watched it, but apparently in the new Watchmen trailer that premiered at the Scream Awards, you can see Dr. Manhattan’s ween.  Played by Billy Crudup, he’s been wearing some sort of fruity Euro man panties in all the other stuff, but as WorstPreviews points out… this time he wasn’t.  Get excited.  It’s like all those fantasies I had about my Smurf dolls having washboard abs and being anatomically correct are finally coming true.
