SUNDANCE JUST GOT SEXY. RAPE SEXY.

Meanwhile, back in Utah, the Weinsteins just bought the distribution rights to Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired.

For movie lovers around the world, one of the saddest chapters in film history was the exile of Roman Polanski from the U.S. more than 30 years ago. Convicted of having unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, Polanski fled the U.S. rather than risk serving extended jail time. Over the years, the case has become encrusted with media-created mythology. Now Marina Zenovich’s thoroughly researched and beautifully crafted documentary revisits the case in "Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired" and introduces new evidence that suggests a gross miscarriage of justice. It’s a compelling tale that should be a natural for film-savvy cable outlets. [Hollywood Reporter

Yes, a gross miscarriage of justice and a revolting, partial birth abortion of the legal system.  It’s about time someone told this story.  I’m not saying what he did was okay, all I’m saying is that if your pregnant wife gets murdered by the Manson family and you decide you wanna get a hot 14-year-old liquored up and full of Quaaludes so you can rape her, maybe you should get a pass?  It’s in the Bible.

RICKI LAKE GIVES BIRTH ON FILM

01.09.08 Written by Vince Mancini

The camera adds ten pounds to your vagina

Ugh, I thought I was being cute with my headline until I found this picture. Anyway, the story is, Ricki Lake executive produced The Business of Being Born, a film in which she also appears.

Initiated by executive producer Ricki Lake and directed by Abby Epstein, this investigation of contemporary childbirth "management" is in many ways "The Inconvenient Truth" of obstetrics, not to mention a convincing endorsement of midwifery. A close-up and personal film, in which several of its subjects — including Lake — allow the camera to capture their chosen methods of delivery in indisputably intimate detail, "The Business of Being Born," screened at the Palm Springs International Film Festival ahead of a limited theatrical run (it will be offered by Netflix in February), is a must-see for any woman who’s pregnant or planning to have kids.  At first glance, the notion of deliberately giving birth outside of a hospital (as Lake did in 2001, in her bathtub with her second child) might seem to be a risky proposition. [Yahoo/Hollywood Reporter]

Jesus Christ, here’s some advice: if you want to make a widely-seen, socially conscious, message-movie, don’t put RICKI LAKE GIVING BIRTH IN A BATHTUB IN IT.

I can’t think of anything more terrifying, not even Barbra Streisand singing a sad song at a funeral for my penis, or Nic Cage’s forehead chasing me through an Indian burial ground.  I picture her all pasty and bloated with her chubby vag stretched out like an inflated balloon while the studio audience shouts, "You go, gurl!", "Oh no you di-en’t!", and "Dass yo baby!"  Next time just adopt an African like everyone else.

BREAK DANCING SCARES ME

01.04.08 Written by Vince Mancini

Pssh, that\'ll never save the rec center.

Today Apple has this trailer for Planet B-Boy.  Which is apparently a break dancing documentary.

An American dancer in Vegas looks for his big break; a Korean son seeks his father’s approval; a twelve-year-old boy in France confronts his family’s racism – all the b-boys’ lives collide in Germany where their skills are put to the ultimate test: the “Battle of the Year” finals, with crews from 18 nations vying for the title of World Champion.

Uh dude?  There’s a guy spinning around on another guy’s head – I’ll take less backstory and more which demon he sold his soul to in order to become a human dreidel. I remember when people used to breakdance at recess in junior high.  I tried to do it once and all I did was break my ass.  I got so mad that the next time they turned the music on, I just punched the guy next to me.  And that’s how moshing got started.

PROTAGONIST HAS TERRORISTS N STUFF

10.30.07 Written by Vince Mancini

Who painted this one, Saint Debbie of Downer?

Watch the Protagonist trailer here

I wanted a screen cap for this one, and this is what I got at random.  Depressing isn’t it?  Because I mean, without hookers, alcohol, rock concerts, and making out with shirtless Woody Allen lookin’ dudes, what else is there?  Why you gotta  be such a cockblocker, God?

[Protagonist] Explores extremism and the limits of certainty. Inspired by Greek drama, this visually inventive documentary weaves the stories of four men – a German terrorist, a bank robber, an “ex-gay” evangelist, and a martial arts student consumed by personal odysseys. [Directed by Jessica Yu]

Yadda yadda yadda.  I don’t want a thesis, I just wanna hear from the bank robber and the terrorist.  Yeah, I’d bone this movie. (In Theatres November 29th)

SHARKWATER: GRIZZLYMAN OF THE OCEAN?

10.26.07 Written by Vince Mancini

Straight for the crotch. Grouper are the Lohans of the sea.

WATCH THE SHARKWATER TRAILER

For filmmaker Rob Stewart, exploring sharks began as an underwater adventure. What it turned into was a dangerous journey into the balance of life on earth. Driven by passion fed from a lifelong fascination with sharks, Stewart debunks historical stereotypes of sharks as bloodthirsty, man-eating monsters and reveals the reality of sharks as pillars in the evolution of the seas.

Initial reaction: Ooh, HD footage of sharks – this could be one of them "Let’s get stoned and have our minds blown" movies.  Seconds later: Hmm, documentaries about the survival of mankind totally harsh my mellow.  Towards the end: Is it wrong to hope for a Grizzlyman ending?

Side Note: "Sharkwater" would be an amazing name for an energy drink.
