THE TOP 10 REACTIONS TO ‘DANCE FLICK’

05.26.09 Written by Vince Mancini

While writing my last post about Dance Flick earning $13 million this weekend, I naturally wondered who the hell all those people seeing it were. That’s when I came across these Twitter reactions and figured, “Hmm, maybe these deserve their own post.”  Then I thought, “Hell, why not make it a top ten list?”  And then I thought, “Look, a squirrel.”

  1. montanatucker says: Okay soo idc what any1 says but I thought Dance Flick was hilarious lol

  10. The_Statement says: Dance Flick, officially the worst movie I’ve ever paid to see, well I aint pay lol but stilllll

It’s funny to me that even among the can’t spell, punctuate, capitalize, or complete a thought demographic, it’s still only running 30-40% recommended.  Not funny?  In the time it took you to read this, the world welcomed six new Wayanses.

BOX OFFICE: MUSEUMS OVER ROBOTS

05.26.09 Written by Vince Mancini

Night at the Museum 2 mopped the floor with Terminator Salvation, grossing $70 million to Terminator’s $53.8 over the course of the extended weekend. Salvation‘s attendance was actually lower than the last two Terminators, and its numbers were down from Friday to Saturday, “a rarity that could signal disappointing word of mouth.”  Such a shame, it just doesn’t seem fair that the quality of the product should affect its revenue.

Elsewhere, Star Trek overtook Wolverine in domestic revenue, just like I said it would ($191 million to $165.4, respectively), while Angels & Demons made decent money but was down from Da Vinci Code, earning $87.8 million in the time it took Da Vinci to earn $144.9.

And finally, inexplicably, Dance Flick earned $13.1 million.  I know it doesn’t sound like a lot, but writing, shooting, and editing couldn’t have taken longer than an afternoon.  And I’m sure you think I’m exaggerating, but keep in mind, Keenan Wayans literally let his nephew direct. (top 10 after the jump)

WEEKEND PREVIEW: MEMORIAL DAY SALVATION

05.22.09 Written by Vince Mancini

Opening this weekend:

Terminator Salvation
You can read more than you probably want to know about it in my review.  Bottom line, it ain’t a bad flick to get dragged to if you’re just looking for something that looks cool and has lots of explosions.  The main difference between this and T2?  In both, the bad guy gets frozen by liquid nitrogen.  In T2 they actually write the liquid nitrogen into the scene.  It’s definitely better than the last Indiana Jones, and definitely worse than Star Trek.  After the jump, you can watch McG explain his favorite scene.

Night at the Museum 2
Haha, way to have kids, loser.  Pretty soon you’ll be going to Night at the Mausoleum.  Haha, I kid because I’m lonely.  On a serious note, I haven’t seen this or the first one, but it looks a lot better than Hotel for Dogs or the one where The Rock plays the tooth fairy.

Dance Flick
Oh joy, another Wayans Brothers movie.  If you’re seeing this you’d have to be pretty hard up for entertainment.  Have you considered suicide?  It may not be *the* answer, but it’s definitely *an* answer.

The Girlfriend Experience
Pornstar Sasha Grey plays a prostitute for Steven Soderbergh.  If it’s not playing in a theater near you, you can still order it on cable.  Other than Ocean’s Twelve, I can’t say as I’ve ever been super disappointed by a Steven Soderbergh flick (Out of Sight is especially underappreciated).  And I’d love to recommend it based on Grey’s presence alone, but really I just wish she’d stop squinting.  Settle down, bitch, it ain’t that bright.

OH YEAH, THIS IS OPENING TOO

05.22.09 Written by Vince Mancini

I haven’t covered Dance Flick that much, which is a shame because it opens today.  Here’s a new clip.  It should be a really good movie because it comes from Shawn and Marlon Wayans, and they’re the guys who launched  Seltzer-Friedberg and made White Chicks.  Their latest stars Shoshanna Bush, which is a funny name, because “Shoshanna” is the sound I imagine a bush making.  So that’s all the word-association humor I’ve got for now.  I honestly expected this to be a lot worse.

WHY DIDN’T I THINK OF THAT!

11.14.08 Written by Vince Mancini

The other day I told you about Dance Flick, the Wayans Bros latest spoof which they literally let a nephew direct, and now we have a trailer.  I’m sure this’ll be good, because after all, these guys taught Seltzer-Friedberg everything they know.  “Wayans” is to shitty movies what “Marley” is to reggae.
