Mr. T. Baby Unmasked! The Follow-Up Interview

10.31.11 Written by Vince Mancini

Normally I’m mostly indifferent to babies. They cry and poop a lot and ruin plane rides, and generally don’t bring much to the table until they reach pageant age. At least, that’s what I thought until last week, when Joe King sent me this picture of Mr. T Baby, aka B.A .”Baby Asian” Baracus (which I believe he found over on iruntheinternet). It quickly set the internet on fire, racking up more than 12,600 Facebook shares as of this writing, as well as mentions on Bravo’s Andy Cohen Live and Gabriel Iglesias’s Facebook page.  And for good reason. The way her chubby little arms and baby barrel chest mimic that of the former A-Team star make her pretty much the cutest thing ever. I mean, if you can look at these pictures without smiling, you should probably go get a job gassing puppies at the pound  because you’re dead inside.

Recently, I was able to reach out to Mr. T Baby’s father and lead costume designer, Brandon, from St. Paul, Minnesota, to get the full story behind the costume (JOURNALISM!). And much like the now-famous picture of his daughter’s first Halloween costume (it was last year, she was one and a half), the whole story made me smile. So with his permission, I thought I’d share with you this Halloween treat.

(Helpful tip: you can click to enlarge any of the photos).

Game Over, This is the World’s Greatest Baby Costume

10.20.11 Written by Vince Mancini

Halloween is just around the corner, but I think we might as well all just give up now, because there’s no way any of are outdoing B.A. Baracus here. In this case, I believe the B.A. stands for “Baby Asian.”

Who Smurfed It Best? Pictures from Global Smurfs Day

06.27.11 Written by Burnsy

On Saturday, thousands of people gathered in 11 cities across the planet to celebrate the birth of Peyo, the man who gave us the Smurfs, for Global Smurfs Day 2011. In fact, 4,891 people combined to set a new Guinness World Record for the “Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Smurfs within a 24-hour Period in Multiple Venues.” This, of course, means that there had been a previous record for people dressed as Smurfs, and that distinction belonged to 2,510 losers. As for the people who participated in this global blue ball…

The 11 venues were Brussels, Belgium; Athens, Greece; Scheveningen (The Hague), Holland; Dublin, Ireland; Mexico City, Mexico; Panama City, Panama; Warsaw, Poland; Moscow, Russia; Johannesburg, South Africa; New York, USA; and London, UK. The record was announced by Marc Weinstock, President, Worldwide Marketing for Sony Pictures Entertainment. Mr. Weinstock commented, “It’s a thrill to see so many people turn out to be a part of this true fan moment in Smurfs history. Breaking a Guinness World Record on Global Smurfs Day is a testament to the enormous appeal and popularity of these beloved characters.” (Galatta)

It’s certainly a Smurf of a marketing tool for Sony, as the company’s live action feature The Smurfs opens on July 29, starring Neil Patrick Harris, Katy Perry… *sigh*… George Lopez, Kenan Thompson, and Jeff Foxworthy. As for this new record, I’m an 80s child so I can appreciate the nostalgia for a cartoon that influenced a generation to try hallucinogenic drugs, but after looking through hundreds of photos from around the world, I was a little confused. You can see for yourself what the gatherings looked like, as I’ve included images from England, Poland, Ireland, Mexico, Panama, South Africa and New York City after the jump. Let’s see if the rest of the Drunkards can figure out why I’m upset.

Avatar Dog vs. Parkour Dog: Your Afternoon Match Up

Navi-dog-baby-chicks-avatar dog costume

So this Estonian lady in Texas dressed her pit bull, Sharky, up in a Na’vi costume from Avatar, and then she dressed up with him and made a video of it.  Sharky didn’t seem to like his Na’vi mask very much, but he was really cool about the family of baby chicks crawling on him.  …You guys?  Can I make a confession? I think TexasGirly1979 could be “the one.”  We could dress our dogs up in movie costumes and have a family of baby chicks — blue ones! Just like the Na’vi!  And it would be just the two of us, and we’d live off the fat of the land, with furry puppies and kitties and chicks in costumes to play with.  Oh please, tell me about the baby chicks again, Estonian lady!  Let’s touch queues and dream together!

I’ve got the video below.  Meanwhile, elsewhere in tangentially-movie-related, former Eastern Bloc dog news, Tret the Parkour dog from Ukraine is setting the world on fire.

THIS HALLOWEEN COSTUME OWNS

10.30.09 Written by Vince Mancini

I don’t care if this YouTube video has 400,000 views, I hadn’t seen it and it’s Halloween weekend and this is my site so suck it.  This guy’s Bumblebee costume would be awesome simply for looking like that and for having flashing lights.  But the best part is, he can actually transform into a car.  The sad part is, that means he (or whoever actually made it) spent way more time figuring out the actual logistics of this than anyone on the Transformers movies.
