Vote for the Comment of the Year!

12.29.11 Written by Vince Mancini

I debated even doing a post like this this year, it just sounds so self-congratulatory. And I worry our little self-referential circle jerk isn’t exactly going to win me new readers. But at the same time, hardly a day goes by that I don’t read a comment on one of my posts that’s ten times more clever than whatever I thought of, and likewise, half the compliments I get for this site tell me how funny my commenters are (way more than I get complimented for my actual writing, that’s for sure). I don’t know whether to take credit for that or be offended, but whether I did anything to deserve it or not, the FilmDrunk comments section is one of the few comments sections on the web (especially in the realm of movies) not dominated by people competing for most righteous indignation, or most vitriolic argument over esoteric minutia.

Therefore, I not only wanted to give thanks, but also prizes. Below I’ve compiled the winners (or winners) of every Comments of the Week this year. Place your votes for your favorite in the comments section (make sure to specify name and number, a couple weeks had multiple winners). The winner will receive a $50 Amazon Gift Card, and I’ve got FilmDrunk shirts for the top five. They’re two-color now! (Thanks again to Marc at Encompus for his design). They haven’t physically arrived yet, but as soon as they do (Tuesday, I’m told), I’ll update you on where you can buy one.

So GO VOTE! And I hope this goes without saying, but don’t cheat. Vote for one, and don’t create a billion accounts to vote for yourself, we’ll be able to tell. It’s tough to choose, but I think my favorite was “that clip was so British my pack of smokes just started buttf*cking,” but don’t let that sway you.

Seagal caption contest winners

10.14.11 Written by Vince Mancini

In honor of our new commenting system (more new features still to come, including threaded replies, badges, and direct messaging), on Tuesday we staged both a caption contest for the above picture for a $150 Amazon Gift Card), and a random drawing (for a $100 gift card).

Our random number generator selected number 42, a comment belonging to Elderberry Hamster — (which, although not caption-contest-winner-worthy, was still a respectable level of funny).

Elderberry Hamster says: The only photo evidence from the Flock of Seagals first and only concert.

Meanwhile, here’s your winner of the caption contest:

Test out our new commenting system, win $150

10.11.11 Written by Vince Mancini

As I mentioned yesterday, we’ve rolled out a new commenting system here on FilmDrunk (and across Uproxx). As evidenced by years of past Comments of the Week posts, we’ve never had trouble getting you to comment, but the system needed an upgrade. The new system allows you to have a universal log-in across all Uproxx sites, the ability to log-in via Twitter and Facebook, and the ability to create detailed profiles with enlargeable avatars. Eventually we’ll even have direct messaging and badges. BADGES!

Still, we’re sorry we made you re-register. And just to make sure this stays the awesome community it is, we’re sweetening the pot to give you even more incentive to register (or re-register) and crack-wise (as if hearing yourself type wasn’t incentive enough).

First, we’re going to randomly select someone. Anyone who registers and comments in the post below will have a chance to win a $100 Amazon gift certificate, chosen at random (if you leave a thousand unfunny comments I’m going to ban you).

Secondly, since what makes FilmDrinking great isn’t a thousand obnoxious, uninformed comments and asinine 13-year-old arguments like YouTube, but quality, clever commenters, we’ll be throwing a caption contest and giving the winner a $150 gift certificate. I tried to throw you a softball, so check out the picture below and give it your best shot.

Pam Anderson Will Sleep With You

09.07.10 Written by Burnsy

Nokia

In news that would have been awesome 10 years ago, Nokia has announced a contest that will give one lucky person the chance to film a bedroom scene with iconic wig wearer bombshell Pam Anderson. The contest is all part of Nokia’s campaign to show off the company’s new N8 cell phone, which features a HD quality video camera and film editing software. The bedroom scene will be for a short film called The Commuter, which will be filmed entirely on the N8 phone. Anderson agreed to do the film because she’s had HC for a few years and figured HD is the next logical step.

Nokia also signed Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick for a scene that takes place in an elevator, and anyone whose life’s ambition is to appear in a cell phone commercial with him now has their opportunity. Dare to dream, Drunkards. Dare. To. Dream.

Maybe they can also get Yasmine Bleeth and David Chokachi, Star Pulse:

The former “Baywatch” beauty, who hit the headlines in the 1990s after filming a sex tape with her then-husband Tommy Lee, has agreed to be filmed frolicking in bed with the winner of phone firm Nokia’s latest competition.

John Nichols, head of marketing at Nokia UK, explains, “We wanted to create something very special for the launch of the Nokia N8 that showcases the Hollywood quality of its camera.”

The Hollywood quality, eh? I’ve always wanted a cell phone that snorts blow off an underage hooker’s ass and wakes up in a Starbuck’s dumpster. In related news, Channing Tatum will be appearing in a short film for Boost Mobile entitled, Pay Yo Bill.

HEY HOMOS, YOU LIKE BOOZE? – PART TWO

12.05.08 Written by Vince Mancini

What up.  I have to post this one more time before they pick a winner.  Good luck.

Here on FilmDrunk, I never plug stuff for profit or agree to say nice things about movies in exchange for schwag or access.  But one of my main principles is that principles go straight out the window when free booze is involved.  Here’s the deal, just click on this link for a chance to win a bar full of free booze from Thrillist.  Okay, maybe not a bar full, I mean, not enough to fill my bar; but certainly more than you can smuggle to the movies in a trenchcoat.  They’re only doing this for FilmDrunk, so the odds won’t be like winning the lottery or touching a girl’s boob.  So what’s Thrillist?  Glad you asked, dickweed!

Thrillist is a free daily email that sifts through the crap to find the best of what’s new in your city and on the web. Each day, you’ll get info on the best new bars, restaurants, events, gear, and services. Whatever it is, we promise it won’t suck.

As part of the promotion, I’m not allowed to win.  But according to the rules, I’m also not not allowed to show up at the winner’s house in a crotchless speedo yelling “Hey, fags, when’s the gangbang?”
