Jude Law Has Bailed On ‘Jane Got A Gun’ Now

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.20.13

“Bye movie!”

Hey, remember earlier today when Vince was all, “Gavin O’Connor is replacing Lynne Ramsay as director on Jane Got a Gun because she completely no-showed on the first day of filming and everyone was like, WTF lady”? But then the movie people were like, “Chill out everyone, we’re going to be fine because we already lost Michael Fassbender before and we replaced him with Joel Edgerton, but we still have Jude Law and Natalie Portman, so this movie is going to be just fine”.

Well… about that.

While the troubled independent feature Jane Got A Gun got a new director this morning in Gavin O’Connor, fallout continues from Monday’s abrupt exit of helmer Lynne Ramsay. I’m told that Jude Law has formally withdrawn from the film. It is because he signed on to work with Ramsay, best known for the edgy drama We Need To Talk About Kevin. The producers of Jane Got A Gun have tried to hold its cast together when Ramsay stepped out, and this is the second significant star to drop out in the past few weeks. (Via Deadline)

What is still the strangest thing about this maligned film production is that Ramsay hasn’t broken her silence about why she just said, “F*ck it” and decided to bail. Fassbender’s excuse was that the production interferes with X-Men: Days of Future Past, which is clearly more important (even though they’ve cast Booboo Stewart, which is just bullsh*t). And Law’s excuse is that he thought he’d be working with another director, which is kind of a cheap shot at O’Connor, but a guy should be able to choose his boss, right?

So what’s Ramsay’s excuse? There are whispers that maybe she was forced out by the producers, but who knows? Well, I don’t have word from the disappearing director herself, but I do, in a super FilmDrunk exclusive, have the next best thing…

Anonymous Hackers: Emma Watson To Star In ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’?

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.15.13

As always, if the title has a question mark that means we’re dealing with an unsubstantiated rumor that is coming from a source that may not know a ding dong diddily darn of what it speaks. This time around, though, the fine folks of Anonymous claim that they have uncovered documents that prove that Emma Watson has signed on to star as Anastasia Steele in the big screen adaptation of the best-selling Twilight fan fiction known as Fifty Shades of Grey.

And where there are whips, there are scars, because it turns out that Constantin Films was indeed hacked, so this may be the happiest day ever for men of all ages.

Dave Bautista Will Play Drax The Destroyer In ‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.15.13

Actual cast photo.

As Vince had previously written, Conan star Jason Momoa was the frontrunner for the role of Drax the Destroyer in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. However, there were complications with getting that deal done, and as the Hollywood Reporter points out: “Momoa was pegged as the man for the gig in February by online geek blogs — prematurely, it turns out.” Shots fired, bros.

Anyway, director James Gunn and Co. went back to the drawing board to select an actor with the physical attributes to play the gigantic green warrior on a quest to kill the titan Thanos, and it wasn’t that difficult because former WWE Champion Dave Bautista was like, “Hey, I’m gigantic” and Marvel was like, “Sweet, bro.”

Chris Cooper Has Joined ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2′ As Norman Osborn

Written by Ashley Burns / 03.01.13

Spider-Man 3 was largely panned because it featured Kirsten Dunst singing and crammed three villains into one film. And not only did it try to pull off three villains, but it did so at the expense of Venom, one of the most beloved badass comic book villains of all-time. So while Columbia Pictures rushed the rebooted series for last year’s The Amazing Spider-Man to avoid having it revert back to Marvel Studios and therefore to The Avengers franchise, fans hoped that director Marc Webb and Co. wouldn’t make the same mistakes. Bad news, folks.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 already has two villains in Paul Giamatti’s Rhino and Jamie Foxx’s Electro. There was also that teaser photo that led many of us to believe that Venom may be involved, and while that would be awesome, this film doesn’t need three villains. Too bad, though, because there might be a third villain now and it’s Chris Cooper as Norman Osborn.

Gandalf and Picard are returning to X-Men 4 minus 3 plus 1

Written by Vince Mancini / 11.27.12

The X-Men visit a no-touch strip club.

I was as shocked as anyone when X-Men: First Class actually turned out kinda good. But the inevitable sequel is moving forward without original director Matthew Vaughn (original director of the prequel, that is…) , and with an awful title, “Days of Future Past.” But Bryan Singer is on to direct, and though he hasn’t directed anything good since 2003, he at least has it in him, and from the sounds of it, he’s got the cast of X-Men: First Class returning, with the added bonus of Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan. Singer himself broke the news this morning on Twitter.

We already sort of assumed the plot would involve time travel from the title; the casting of young and old Professor X and Magneto all but confirms it. At the least, you imagine it will involve a heavy flashback element. Which is a good thing, because at its core, X-Men is really a story about a bromance between a psychic cripple and a tattooed holocaust survivor with a huge dong. Polish up the awards, this thing’s as Oscar baity as The Reader.
