Sucker Punch Looks a Little… Dry

Sucker-Punch-Robot-Samurai

Zack Snyder is through staging fights between stuntmen dressed in cardboard wings, and all that’s left for him now is to finish Sucker Punch, which just released this new trailer.  It stars Emily Browning as a girl who gets sent to some awesome, hot-chicks-only insane asylum, where the only way she can escape is through her power to imagine sexy scenarios.  If you saw Inception and you wondered why everyone’s dreams seemed so much like reality, and you were like, “Hey, where are the dragons and zombies and robot samurai?”  BOOM!  HERE’S THE DRAGONS AND ZOMBIES AND SAMURAI GATLING GUNS!  And of course, the hot chicks will fight them wearing fetishy tights and schoolgirl gear.  I love Zack Snyder, but I worry that this one’s going to be too dry.  C’mon, dude, this isn’t NPR, don’t be afraid to put some cool sh*t in there.

Twilight director will probably direct Wolverine 2

08.20.10 Written by Vince Mancini

carla_gugino_dressIt’s Friday, so I broke some stories into spicy, bite-sized nuggets.

Twilight Eclipse director David Slade is the leading candidate to direct Wolverine 2. According Vulture, it’s down to Slade or Flightplan/Time Traveler’s Wife director Robert Schwentke (and this guy still gets work why?).  Hugh Jackman will make the final decision after he meets with them next week. “A well-placed source inside the production insists, ‘It’s going to be Slade.’”  I’m guessing Slade will spend most of this week on the phone saying, “Yeah, sure, Hugh, I could definitely see Wolverine exploring his love of musical theater, great idea.” |Vulture|

Carla Gugino in negotiations to star in MILF. …Which stands for “Mothers I’d Like to Fight” — “a revenge story about a woman who, recently released from prison, returns to the street to take care of some unfinished business.”  Speaking of unfinished business, it looks like I’ve got some of my own.  I came here to chew bubble gum and wank dismissively, and I’m all out of bubble gum. |LATimes|

A guy committed suicide at a Swell Season show last night. Swell Season is the folk rock duo of Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova from that movie Once, and at a show last night in Saratoga, CA, a guy climbed onto the roof three stories above the stage and jumped just as the band was finishing a song, landing three feet from Hansard. Their music isn’t really my cup of tea, but Glen Hansard once said something nice about FilmDrunk on Twitter, so I won’t make the obvious joke here. Anyway, it’s a sad story, and I can only hope Olivia Munn doesn’t do any live readings of her book so it doesn’t get repeated. |SFWeekly|

TRAILER FOR ‘WOMEN IN BRAS’

10.13.09 Written by Vince Mancini

After the jump, I’ve got the trailer for Women in Trouble, opening November 13th.  It looks like a cheesy, feminine empower flick with characters named “Elektra” and “Moxine” (subtle), written and directed by Sebastian Gutierrez, the guy (yes, a man) who previously wrote the modern-day classics The Eye and Snakes on a Plane.  But every character in the trailer shows up wearing a sexy bra with no shirt, so there’s that.

A pregnant porn star, a couple of call girls, a scorned psychiatrist, a teenage goth, a flight attendant with a crush on a famous passenger… the troubles of this cluster of LA women couldn’t be more different [not true, they all sound like sluts. -Ed.], but on one crazy day feminine compassion will alter all of their lives. Devilish humor, razor-sharp scripting, and a knockout ensemble of talented actresses (including Carla Gugino, Connie Britton, and Marley Shelton) turn trouble into pure pleasure.

It’s also got Emmanuelle Chriqui playing a stripper:

NICE GUGINOS

12.19.08 Written by Vince Mancini

CHUD was the first to break these two pictures of Carla Gugino in Women in Trouble, which isn’t out but already has a planned sequel.  You may remember her from Son in Law? Anyway, she plays Elektra Luxx, a pornstar “who has her life turned upside down when she gets pregnant.”  There’s no reason being preggers has to hurt your porn career.  In fact, it doubles the money-shot capabilities.

Also: Danny Trejo designed the sash.

THE LADIES OF WATCHMEN

11.06.08 Written by Vince Mancini

Myspace has a brand new featurette about the girls of Watchmen (trailer here) starring Malin Akerman and Carla’s Guginos.  Like all featurettes, it includes plenty of interview footage in which the actors discuss the movie characters as if they were real people, and earnestly examine the psychological roots of spandex-wearing superheroes from a comic book.

“It’s funny, because I actually see a lot of myself in Lasers McFreeze.  You know, he was molested by an uncle, he was dyslexic, he hates broccoli, and throughout his life he feared confined spaces because of that time the devil banished him to a space cave.  And yet, in a way, it was those very traumas which gave him the special powers he needed to stop Gilgameth from stealing the gamma cube at Glaxon 4. So I mean, I think he’s someone we can all identify with.”
