UPDATE – NOT THE REAL BOND POSTER

01.29.08 Written by Vince Mancini

UPDATE: Apparently when you translate the source link to English, it says fan-made poster.  Congratulations to me for sucking.

The new Mars Volta album James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, has a new poster. It’s not that cool looking and it doesn’t show much, so I’m not sure what kind of reaction they were expecting.

"Dude! Did you hear?  The new Bond movie has a hotel in it!"

"No way! A hotel?  It’s like they read my mind!"

"Yeah, an old one!  With a weather vane!"

"A WEATHER VANE!?! NO WAY, I CAN’T IMAGINE ANYTHING COOLER THAN THAT!  Oh man, if you say it has a cone-shaped tower I might just crap my pants."

IGN also has a new featurette.

BOND TITLE SOUNDS LIKE CRAPPY EMO BAND

01.24.08 Written by Vince Mancini

Taken from the title of a collection of short stories by Ian Fleming, the official title of the 22nd Bond film is Quantum of Solace

The new film sees 007 (Daniel Craig) out for revenge on a mission that takes him to Austria, Italy and South America. Bond girl Camille, played by Ukrainian-born Olga Kurylenko [pictured], leads the secret agent to Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), member of a mysterious organization and a ruthless businessman, seeking to control huge natural resources.

The plot follows on directly from Casino Royale, as Bond aims to uncover the truth about Vesper, the beauty who betrayed him, and discovers that she had been blackmailed. [ComingSoon

Quantum of Solace sounds like a crappy band that sounds just like The Mars Volta and everyone wears girl jeans and has hyphenated names who you shout "Play some Skynyrd!" at who cry when you throw beer bottles at them.

NEW BOND GIRL PRETTY HOT FOR AN OLGA

01.08.08 Written by Vince Mancini

It’s now being reported that the Bond girl in Bond 22 will be Olga Kurylenko, who could previously be seen in Hitman and behind a bush outside her bedroom window.

Gemma Arterton, whose casting I reported on before, will play an MI6 agent named Fields.

In Bond 22, her character’s name is Camille, who the press release says will simultaneously challenge Bond and “helps him come to terms with emotional consequences of Vesper’s betrayal”; the aforementioned Vesper being Vesper Lynd, the double-crossing lass played by Eva Green in Casino Royale. [/film]

Camille, eh?  I’m impressed that they managed to stick her with a name even less sexy than Olga.  But in any case, her casting is welcome news because, if one were so inclined, one could find pictures of her vagina on the internet (thanks, Google Image Search).  And as momma always taught me, that’s the true test of a lady.

GEMMA ARTERTON CONFIRMED FOR BOND

01.07.08 Written by Vince Mancini

Variety is confirming rumors that Gemma Arterton will be in the next James Bond flick.  I still don’t know who she is, but this picture is a lot hotter than the last one I posted.

Still no word on the title, as Variety refers to the movie only as "the 22nd film in the franchise."

The Marc Forster-helmed film, loosely based on the Ian Fleming short story "Risico," finds 007 (Daniel Craig) dispatched to infiltrate a drug ring flooding Britain with heroin. "Royale" scribe Paul Haggis penned the screenplay, furthering an earlier draft written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.

It’s probably hopeless, but I still have my fingers crossed that this will be a return to the overtly sexist Bond who slaps asses and the chick’s name is Nipple McBoner or something.

In related news, my favorite heroin dealers are Big Pookie, Little Pookie, Milky Steve, and Skeet Skeet.

JAMES BOND FIGHTS MEXICAN

12.19.07 Written by Vince Mancini

You probably read that headline and were like, "What, he’s gonna stab someone?"

That may be, but the story is that the Mexican actor (Joaquin Cosio) playing Bond bad guy General Medrano is blabbing about the plot to a Mexican newspaper.

"I’m General Medrano, Bond’s enemy in Latin America, but there are other enemies waiting in Europe for Bond." [Cinematical]

He later reveals that Giancarlo Giannini and Judi Dench will return for the next bond.  His IMDB page further reveals that he played Vicente in the TV series "Sexo y otros secretos".  Based on my knowledge of Mexican television, Vicente has fake freckles and often licks a giant lollipop while looking directly at the camera and delivering lines that I don’t understand, but based on the reaction of the studio audience, are really funny.

Related news stories: "Judi Dench" is cockney rhyming slang for "stench".  Also, I once watched the Mexican version of America’s Funniest Home Videos, and one of the videos was a dog falling asleep.
