10-year-old shot and killed during Wreck-It Ralph in mysterious Mexico murder theater

Written by Vince Mancini / 11.14.12

The drug cartel wars in Mexico have killed as many as 60,000 people in the last six years (!!) so you might expect Mexicans to be a little jaded when it comes to murder. But just how jaded? Well, a 10-year-old was shot in the head and killed during a Wreck-It Ralph screening last week, and after they carted him out, THEY KEPT PLAYING THE REST OF THE MOVIE.

According to an ongoing police investigation and local media reports, the shooting occurred Nov. 2 while young Hendrik Cuacuas, accompanied by his father and sister, were watching the animated Disney film Wreck-It-Ralph in a southern Mexico City theater.

The boy’s father, Enrique Cuacuas, told investigators and radio station Radio W that the child was sitting on his right side in a full theater when about a half-hour into the screening he heard something whiz past his ear, followed by the sound of a thud. He then turned to his right and saw his son convulsing and bleeding from the head. At that point, he realized his son had been shot. The boy was rushed to a hospital in critical condition but died two days later.

An autopsy report revealed that the child was shot from a distance of about four to six feet and it said the bullet entered the front of his head. However, adding to the general confusion, the coroner was quoted as saying that the shooter was not necessarily standing in front of the victim. [Or maybe it was the chupacabra. What am I, a doctor?]

Even stranger, the boy’s father and others in the theater said they heard no gunshots. Without offering proof, Cuacuas told Radio W that he learned there had been similar incidents in the past in the same theater. [THR]

Sad yet? Oh, it gets worse.

Nooo! Winnebago Man’s cabin burned down

Written by Vince Mancini / 09.06.12

If you’ve seen the documentary about the Winnebago Man, Winnebago Man, you may remember that Jack “The Winnebago Man” Rebney is nearly blind from glaucoma and has been living alone in a cabin with his dog near Redding in Northern California for the past few years. (Additional trivia: Jack’s son Bjorn Rebney is the CEO of Bellator Fighting Championships, the second-biggest Mixed Martial Arts promoter behind Zuffa). According to the makers of the documentary, Rebney’s home burned down last week in the Ponderosa wildfire. Somehow, I know this is all because Tony wouldn’t stop slamming that f*cking door.

“Winnebago Man,” the famous star of a viral video that earned him the title of ”World’s Angriest Man,” says he is satisfied that he and his dog, Buda, escaped the Ponderosa Fire, which destroyed his Manton home.
“I’m going to be much lighter as a direct result of (not needing) all the stuff I had,” said Jack Rebney, 82. He continued, without swearing once in the entire interview, “That’s OK. My dog and I got out.”
Rebney, a retired television news producer whose profanity-laced tirade has been viewed by millions, said a neighbor helped him make it out of the fire Saturday as flames enveloped his property.
They traveled up Rock Creek Road to Highway 44, and Rebney said he’s staying with friends in Shingletown.
“It was crowning right at the route going out; we were right in the midst of it,” he said. “I lost the house, I lost the barns, all of it. … it was a monster, a really big fire.”
Neighbors helped him pack up an antique chest his grandparents brought with them when they immigrated to the United States, along with family mementos and his computer. [Redding.com]

That’s awful! If only he’d been living in some kind of… mobile… home, that would allow a person to escape the path of a fire with all their belongs. Oh cruel irony.

Here’s a letter from the filmmakers:

Crappy news about Bob Hoskins

Written by Vince Mancini / 08.08.12

69-year-old English actor Bob Hoskins, best known for iconic roles in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Hook, and Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties (okay, maybe not that last one), known for playing “Cockney rough diamonds,” according to the first line of his Wikipedia bio, recently told the BBC that he’s retiring from acting after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.

In a statement on Wednesday, his agent said he was withdrawing from acting after a “wonderful career” and would be spending time with his family.

“He wishes to thank all the great and brilliant people he has worked with over the years, and all of his fans who have supported him during a wonderful career,” said the statement.

In 1986, his portrayal of George in Neil Jordan’s film Mona Lisa, about a high-class call girl, won him numerous awards including a Globe for best actor, a Bafta and an Academy Award nomination. Hoskins was again nominated for best supporting actor at the Globes for his role in Mrs Henderson Presents, a 2005 British comedy directed by Stephen Frears, starring Dame Judi Dench.

More recently, his role as a publican in Jimmy McGovern’s drama serial, The Street, earned him the title of best actor at the 2010 International Emmys.

Aw, shine on, you rough, Cockney diamond, you. It’s sh*tty, but I don’t get it, why does he have to retire? Why not just have them write Parkinson’s into the script? “Once there was this old guy. Oh, and also, he has Parkinson’s.” It’s one line. And clearly it wouldn’t be unrealistic. Anyway, I hope he comes out of retirement for one or two more roles. I’d hate for his last job to be Snow White and the Huntsman (pictured below).

At times like these, I think it’s important to remember that Harrison Ford is a year older than Bob Hoskins and wears an earring.

Ryan Dunn was going 140 mph with a .196 BAC and a previous DUI

Written by Vince Mancini / 06.22.11

Ryan Dunn’s preliminary autopsy report listing his cause of death came in early yesterday, but if you ask me, “smashed all to f*ck” didn’t seem very scientific.  Today police released hard numbers, which estimate Dunn was traveling between 130 and 140 mph at the time of the accident, with a Blood Alcohol Content of .196.  Which, if my math serves, would make the degree of difficulty 27.44.

Police in West Goshen, Pa., have finished their reconstruction of the fatal June 20 accident and determined the Jackass star’s Porsche 911 GT3 may have been traveling between 130 and 140 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone when it barreled through a guard rail into a ravine and slammed into a tree before bursting into flames.
Additionally, investigators confirmed the Chester County Coroner’s toxicology results that show his blood-alcohol content was 0.196, two-and-a-half times over the state’s legal limit of 0.08.
Sadly, Dunn’s speed demon history makes the tragedy all the more predictable.
Per Pennsylvania court records, the reality star had at least 23 driving infractions over the last 13 years from six different counties, among them citations for speeding and careless driving, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without a license, two parking-related transgressions and a criminal mischief-damage to property citation.
Most of the infractions ended in guilty pleas.
Dunn had two arrests under his belt, one in 2001 for a traffic infraction and another in 2005 after he was busted for DUI.

Publicist Shot Five Times After Burlesque Premiere

Written by Vince Mancini / 11.16.10

ronni_chasen Morgan Freeman

64-year-old Hollywood publicist Ronni Chasen died last night after reportedly being shot five times in the chest and crashing her car into a pole in Beverly Hills, after attending the Burlesque premiere earlier that evening.  Yeah… so I guess I’ll save the jokes on this one.

“On November 16th 2010 at approximately 12:28 a.m. Beverly Hills police officers received info regarding shots that were heard in the area of Sunset and Whittier, shortly after a collision was reported in the same area. Units arrived and discovered a newer black Mercedes Benz E-350 involved in a solo crash to the light pole. The lone female occupant was located in the vehicle with apparent multiple gunshot wounds to her chest. Beverly Hills paramedics transported the victim to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased. The investigation is in the preliminary stages and no further information is available at this time. At this time there is no suspect, info or motive for this crime.”

Chasen began her career as a publicist in 1973, and worked on films such as 1989′s Driving Miss Daisy and 1997′s Lolita.

In February 1993, she was named senior vice president of worldwide publicity at MGM. [THR]

Pardon me for stating the obvious, but that’s terrible.  You see, this is why I only work from home.  First they make you put on pants, and before you know it, all kinds of awful things are happening. You can’t trust those animals out there.
