Watch Disney’s Oscar-Nominated Short, Paperman

Written by Vince Mancini / 01.31.13

Disney just released their Oscar-nominated animated short, Paperman, on YouTube, which seems like a great place for a short film.

A blend of hand-drawn animation and computer graphics, Paperman is set in a stylized mid-century Manhattan. It deals with the star-crossed love of two office workers, and how a pile of papers brings them together. Disney released the video on YouTube late Tuesday.

The short is drenched in nostalgia — not least because of our increasingly paperless offices. (Throwing your laptop out of the window doesn’t quite have the same airborne effect.) But the seamless hand-drawn and computer combo — created by a group of just 12 artists and first-time director John Kahrs — is something new in the world. [Mashable]

Want To See ‘The Simpsons: The Longest Daycare’? You’ll Have To Pay For ‘Ice Age 4′

Written by Ashley Burns / 07.06.12

Back in May, 20th Century Fox announced after the season finale of The Simpsons that Maggie would be appearing in her very own short film, The Simpsons: The Longest Daycare. With a running time of 4:30, this mini-adventure finds Maggie at the Ayn Rand School For Tots, bored out of her little genius mind. That’s about all we knew about the film until a brand new trailer for Daycare was released this week, and now we know so much more. Namely, that the marketing team is clever.

In what they’re dubbing “this summer’s shortest trailer”, the 5-second clip (after the jump) tells us that Maggie will once again feud with that other baby, Gerald, who looks like Anthony Davis. You know, this one…

30 Seconds of Awesome: Tiny Chainsaw

Written by Vince Mancini / 08.12.11

Look, I get it. It’s Friday afternoon. You want to be entertained, but nothing too mentally taxing. Well, I’ve got just the video. It’s a 30-second animation about a British gentleman with a tiny chainsaw. Actually, 30 seconds is a bit misleading. I mean, that’s how long the video is, but I was laughing for way longer. If you don’t like this, we probably can’t be friends.

WATCH THIS NOW: LOGORAMA, THE OSCAR WINNING-ANIMATED SHORT

Written by Vince Mancini / 03.09.10

I don’t ask much of you guys, because what am I, your girlfriend?  But I’m telling you, you want to watch this video.  It’s Logorama, the Oscar-winning animated short, in its entirety.  Directed by François Alaux, Herve de Crecy, and Ludovic Houplain, imagine a modern film noir set in a strange land where everything is a corporate logo. My only criticism, I don’t remember The Noid ever showing up. Remember the Noid? I’d love to see The Noid and Chester Cheetah sharing a squalid apartment like a couple of burned out tweekers.

NOID: Hey Chester. You think that lady’s baby’s okay?

CHESTER: Whaddya mean?  What baby?

NOID: I mean… you didn’t have to push the stroller in front of the bus like that.

CHESTER: Hey, Dummy: I pushed da stroller inta da street ta distract her so you could snatch ‘er purse, remember. Now lemme axe ya somethin: Did we eat today?

NOID: Yeah.

CHESTER: What’s dat? Couldja speak up, I din’t quite hear ya.

NOID: I said yeah!

CHESTER: Dat’s what I tought. Now stop axing so many stupid questions, yer gettin on my last noive.
