THIS SHORT FILM IS NEAT, WATCHMEN-Y

04.20.09 Written by Vince Mancini

This is a cool short film by Adam Berg called Carousel. Very similar to the Watchmen opening credit sequence, the whole thing plays out as one long tracking shot that moves through a frozen three-dimensional space.  The film was actually created as a commercial for Phillips‘ new 21:9 TV.

Until now this Cinematic Viewing Experience has been extremely difficult to replicate at home. Cinema 21:9 boasts a 56″ screen that is shaped in the 21:9 aspect ratio, so movies in the 2.39:1 format completely fill the screen exactly as you experience at the cinema. The TV delivers impeccable high definition picture quality in a native 2560x1080p resolution.

So yeah, it’s a commercial, but a pretty cool commercial, at least.  It’s certainly better than their other ad, where Howie Long walks in on some guys watching the other leading brand of TV.  “Yo, how’s it hangin’, pussies?  Oh hey look, a new TV – your boyfriend buy that for you?  My wife has Steel Magnolias on DVD if you wanna borrow it sometime. I bet it’d look real nice on here.  (*cough*) Fag! (*cough, cough*). Whoa, pardon me. Sore throat.”

CRANK 2 IS CLASSY AND HIGH BROW

03.23.09 Written by Vince Mancini

There’s a new red-band TV spot for Crank 2 out (apparently they have R-rated TV commercials in the U.K., I’m assuming late at night), and you can tell they’re targeting a really classy audience because the spot is literally 30 seconds of nudity and swearing edited together over WWE-entrance music.  And for some reason, it has Bai Ling in it. I didn’t even know she acted. I thought she was a human hentai cartoon.  Anyway, I plan on putting on my spats and taking the gents to see this one after brandy and cigars at the Harvard Club, I do.

KIWIS MAKE ALIENS VS. PREDATOR ADORABLE

03.17.09 Written by Vince Mancini

Alien vs. Predator is playing on Sky TV in the New Zealand this week, and they’ve been promoting it with these print ads.  It’s funny because aliens don’t play pool!  I mean, I’ve never played the Predator but I’ve sure had my money taken by a few sharks!  *breaks cue over dick*

WOLVERINE FOUGHT IN EVERY WAR EVER

02.17.09 Written by Vince Mancini

Silly Wolverine, bringing a bayonet to a dirt clod fight

After the jump, watch “Brothers”, the latest 60-second TV spot for X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which shows Wolverine fighting in the Civil War, Wolverine fighting in World War II, Wolverine fighting in Vietnam… Maybe the twist is that he’s like some 1000 year old vampire who moved to Seattle to bang high school chicks or something like that.  Or maybe he became a superhero by being the only guy to kill more gooks than Clint Eastwood.  Back when I was in Korea, we wouldn’t waste a bullet on a gook. We’d just push ‘em off the top of our giant pile a dead gooks…

Anyway, watch it while you can, because the people at Fox are busy trying to get it pulled from the Internet.  That’s right, they’re trying to stop people from seeing their commercial.  Why?  Because they’re f-cking idiots, that’s why.  Fox is the company God created to make everyone else look smart by comparison.

DRUNKEN SLOTH = WIN

12.29.08 Written by Vince Mancini

This is an Italian ad for Alfa Romeo, whose spokesman is apparently an anthropomorphic sloth.  Although he’s not shanking your mom with a pterodactyl dick bone or hiring a dog to burn down a hospital as I’ve heard sloths are wont to do, there’s something inherently awesome about him.  Is it the necktie?  I think it’s the necktie.  Animals in neckties = always awesome (except for penguins – cuz they’re already wearing tuxedos, lol ;-P).
