I’m not usually one to get excited about comic book movies because they usually suck, but Kick-Ass sounds, well, kick ass.  First of all, when Matt Vaughn wanted to make it his way — hyperviolent like the source — the studios passed.  So instead of letting them cut its balls off, he secured independent financing and made it himself.  Oh and hey, did I mention it also features Nic Cage doing an Adam West impression and stunts by this guy?  The trailer doesn’t give us much, but from what I know of the project it sounds like if Superbad, Kill Bill, and Nic Cage had a butt baby, and that’s one butt baby I’d give a quaalude and invite over for a photography session.

This is the first trailer for Nowhere Boy, based on the memoir by John Lennon’s half sister, Julia Baird.  I’m sure everyone’s sick of slick music biopics by now, but Lennon seems like an obvious subject, even if Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, et. al. flicks got made first.  It’s got a few other factors going for it as well that give me hope it won’t be the usual hokey tear/penis jerker.

• It narrows its focus on John’s early schoolboy days when he met Paul, rather than all the later stuff that’s already been written about ad nauseum
• No big-name actors trying to win an Oscar
• No Beatles songs in the trailer, so at least you know it’s not a cheap ploy to sell more Beatles records
• Made by British people, and British people are smarter. Sorry, it’s true.  That’s why God made them uglier to even things out.

Matthew Vaughn’s Kick-Ass is the rare comic book movie that actually sounds interesting.  It stars Nic Cage and McLovin, and a kid named Aaron Johnson in the lead.  This is a picture of Johnnson’s stunt double.  I often wear a similar outfit to my Big Brothers Big Sisters meetings, though mine has a much bigger codpiece.  I need something that lets me move for when I’m doing my stretches.
