Channing Tatum Was Honored By The New York Times, Apocalypse Still On Track For Dec. 21

Written by Ashley Burns / 12.10.12

New York Times chief film critic A.O. Scott, which I choose to believe stands for Artichoke Octagon, is among the first of journalism’s heavy hitters acting as the clap to break the eventual avalanche of year-end filler stories and lists (including my very own UPROXX Persons of the Year and Worst Movies of 2012). Scott’s main piece – which is so big that it even warranted the Times interviewing its own writer about it – focuses on the rise of the “Hollywood Heroine”, as he believes that 2012 was a particularly strong year for powerful female characters, including Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman and Scarlett Johannsson’s Black Widow, among others.

But Scott also purchased himself a seat on the Channing Tatum A-List bandwagon, which Vince and I take full credit for now that his stock is through the roof, and the N.Y. Times magazine is calling our boy C-Tates one of this year’s Memorable Men. That’s not quite as big as GQ naming him the Movie Star of the Year, and it’s certainly not as monumental as People dubbing him the Sexiest Man Alive, but it’s still nice that this year’s $500 million man is being noticed for his acting.

Haha, just kidding, it’s about his abs.

It’s Time To Take A Break, Channing Tatum

Written by Ashley Burns / 07.12.12

Dallas would want you to leave the audience wanting more.

Yesterday morning, around 6:45 EST, Channing Tatum participated in a Twitter Q&A with the UK’s Glamour Magazine. Among the things that Glamour readers asked and Tatum responded to were: if he’d play Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey (“Yes, but only if my wife was Ana”), the funniest moment while filming Magic Mike (Matthew McConaughey’s dance), the film’s most talented stripper (toss-up between McConaughey and Joe Manganiello), and perhaps the biggest question of them all…

Q: How about Magic Mike 2?

No. Please say no, Channing. Please. For the love of everything. Just say no.

Is ’21 Jump Street’ Actually Getting A Sequel?

Written by Ashley Burns / 07.06.12

Time to twist the other nipple, son.

I meant to hit this little tidbit of “news” yesterday, but I was too busy opening my own custom furniture shop in Tampa, thanks to the inspiration that Magic Mike provided me. So, uh, does anyone need a coffee table made out of air filters and syringes? $6,000 and no layaway.

Speaking of Magic Mike, the film has grossed $52 million* in two weeks (on a $7 million budget) making it Channing Tatum’s third blockbuster of the year. The Vow, which opened in February, has grossed $193 million worldwide and 21 Jump Street, which opened in March, has grossed $197 million already. And while you’ll read plenty about The Vow on a certain list I make at the end of the year, 21 Jump Street deserved this success, because it was a surprising combination of parody, heart, and all-around good comedy.

And as we know from the end of the film, the next assignment for C-Tates and Jonah Hill is… I’ll stop and say “SPOILER ALERT” here to respect anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, but seriously, get with it, people. Everyone else, join me after the, um, jump.

Your Mid-Week Guide To DVD And Streaming: A Thousand Words About The Artist We Call C-Tates

Written by Morton Salt / 06.26.12

If you look closely, he's actually pinching Jonah Hill's thumb. Movie magic!

With choices ranging from The Artist to Bikini Spring Break, there’s plenty to discuss about this week’s new DVDs.  Besides this year’s Oscar winner for Best Picture, there’s Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street, some mythological gods, Julia Roberts, and Eddie Murphy. There’s Catholics and Sikhs and WWE wrestlers trying to act. There’s even a movie about -get this- zombies! What’ll they think of next? All that and the most befuddling box art I have ever seen.

The DVDs:
21 Jump Street
The Artist
Wrath Of The Titans
Mirror Mirror
A Thousand Words
Bullhead
Breakaway
The Perfect Family
Oranges And Sunshine
Best Laid Plans
Bending The Rules
Bikini Spring Break
Second-Story Man
C’mon Man
Father’s Day
Zombiefied

You want to find out which one has that brain-breaking box art?  For that, my friends, you’ll have to keep reading on the next page. (Hint: it’s not Bikini Spring Break -that one’s pretty much what you’d expect.)  If you couldn’t care less about such outdated trappings of physical media, click here for the Netflix instant streaming round-up.
