The droids behind the Star Wars YouTube channel have been taking fans on a trip down memory lane lately, as it started with the posting of the very first theatrical trailer for Star Wars, and it continued yesterday with the first trailer for The Empire Strikes Back. Whereas the Star Wars trailer featured actual clips from the film – set to music and narration that made it sound like a violent cult slasher film – this Empire trailer focuses more on the artistic vision of the film, as colorful stills are used to provide emphasis and imagery for the descriptive narration.
Still, as I watch these old trailers, I try to put myself in a mindset where I feel like I’m watching these trailers in 1976 and 1980, respectively, for the first time, and the only thought that comes to mind is: “I didn’t take enough acid for this.”
