The Coens Inside Llewyn Davis has another trailer

The Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis is set to premiere at Cannes, and just released a new red-band Cannes trailer. It’s basically the same as the last trailer I posted, but now with curse words, giving us exchanges like this:

GOODMAN: A folk singah with a cat.

OSCAR ISAAC (Llewyn Davis): It’s not my cat, I just didn’t know what to do with him.

GOODMAN: So did you bring your dick along too?

The trailer doesn’t show us much of the story, which is just the way I like it. The Coen Brothers are about as close as it gets to can-do-no-wrong status, so all I really need are some pretty pictures and “From the Coen Brothers” before I close my eyes and stick my fingers in my ears and go “LALALA…” Okay, having John Goodman in there helps too. I want John Goodman to deliver the keynote at my firstborn son’s bris.

I don’t mean to be a contrarian twat, but am I missing something with Carey Mulligan? She’s cute and she’s British and has nice lips and all, but I’ve yet to see her play a character who wasn’t a wilting dove who makes confusing decisions. Not flawed, not rash, not tragic, more just “oops I’m a woman and can’t be trusted because I’m so emotional.”  It’s like she’s always broken for broken’s sake, and filmmakers get off on watching her pout and bat tears from her pretty little lashes. Not that I blame her for Wall Street 2, which was basically a disaster from start to finish, but I think it forever ruined her stupid sad crying face for me. But if anyone’s going to use her properly, it’ll be the Coen Brothers. I mean just look what they did for that nice Bardem lady.
