Since being posted on YouTube back in July and gradually taking the world by storm over the past several months, Korean pop superstar Psy’s “Gangnam Style” video has been viewed more than 614 million times. At the same time, it has developed into one of the greatest Internet memes of the past decade with everyone from the Oregon Duck to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad performing the dance. Yeah, we might not have video of proof of Mahmoud dancing, but you know he loves it.
That said, every meme has its day when someone posts yet another parody and the world collectively shouts, “ENOUGH!” I’m here to say that day has come for Gangnam Style (especially since Glee is doing it next), but not before we milk one more parody for all that it’s worth. YouTube user “wekejay”, who previously gave us the Carly Rae Jepsen parody “Batman Maybe”, recently posted “David LoPan Style”, which is obviously a tribute to Big Trouble in Little China in the form of a Gangnam Style parody.
And because Big Trouble in Little China is the greatest movie ever made, and especially because Vince hates it, we’ve got room for one more parody.
In case you want to sing along, here are the lyrics:
Godfather of Little China king and a warrior
Entombed inside this crippled form, appearances can fool ya
Like nothing you can understand but let me try and school ya
David Lo Pan, Mr. BurtonI own Wing Kong Exchange
Importing things from Peking province that are really strange
The working girls at the white tiger they all know my name
I bring the thunder and the lighting then I make it rain, I make it rainI must please Ching Dai to be a real guy
Flesh and blood Flesh and blood
In search of my bride with dragon green eyes to lift this curse
Lift this curse then Ill Rule this universe beyond the grave grave graveHeeeeey Green eyed lady
Jack:
First you’re this basketcase on wheels now you’re an 8 feet tall maniac
Don’t want any trouble big or small, Dave
I just want my truck back
When crazies like you ask me if I paid my dues?
“Have you paid your dues, Jack!?”
Yessir the check is in the mailOh no I’m not insane
I kidnap Chinese girls as soon as they get off the plane
Cross checking iris colors til I match a creamy jade
Now then Miao Yin it’s timte for you to tame my burning blade, arrangements madeGracie and Miao Yin,
That makes two women
Eyes of green, What does it mean?
Oh Mighty Ching Dai, won’t you hear my cry:
Fulfill my oath I’ll marry both
Kill the round eye make the other one my slave slave slave Indeed!!!Needle Love, in your arm I must shove
Then maybe baby we can prove that I am flesh and blood
Six demon bag, Egg Shen you shouldn’t have
I drank your peasant magic portion and it made me gag and take a $h!7.

Considering that the ‘actual’ David LoPan was in the video, it gets a fucking pass.
Plus, it’s no more grating than the original, and at least when I listen to this, I can pull a Capt. America – I understood that reference!
That’s the best parody I’ve seen, good one to end on.
Wow. And James Hong definitely gives it a pass.
It shouldn’t go without saying, but Vince is a terrible person for not liking Big Trouble in Little China.
INDEED!
He’s dead to me!
Or he’s just dead inside. I think he really loves it, but he’s afraid he’ll lose all that ivy-league blogging cred.
I remember listening to a webcast (not the Frotcast) where Vince blasted Big Trouble in Little China. A lot of people just don’t click with the humor, just as many don’t realize Jack Burton isn’t the hero. Vince seems to be one of them. Instead of criticizing him, I think we should just be happy that we’re part of the chosen few who appreciate it. That way, we have an inflated sense of self importance, and we can continue appreciating FilmDrunk. Everyone’s a winner.
On the other hand, he hates Star Wars and likes to trick girls into sex, so maybe Vince has gone off the deep end.
Anyway, cheers to Burnsy, who’s always praising the film.
How the hell does Vince call himself a cinefile and NOT LOVE BTILC? Supwitdat?!!
Because he’s effing tubes.
Kind of surprised that I’d say this about anything Gangnam related but this is pretty cool. Props to Hong.
Needs more dubstep.
Every time there’s one of these things going around and everyone starts freaking out that there are too many parodies, I like to remind them that the next one is going to be even bigger and one day they will long for the period where this kind of thing was big.
In other words, shutup haters, you were not brought into this world to ‘get it’.
(I have, to this day, never heard the original)
Here’s a “Hey Macarena!” to that, brother.
I believe it was the brilliant CC Lemonhead, of the incomparable Quad City DJs, who put it best when he said,
“Come on, ride the train, hey, ride it. Woo woo! Come on, ride the train, it’s the Choo Choo train. Woo woo!”
@Shadowtag +1 for sneaking in that reference. Bravo.
Big Trouble is all that is good and right with this world. And that original thread was fucking hilarious.
I saw this last week when Jen Brown posted it on Twitter. Loved every minute of it since Big Trouble in Little China is one of my all time favorites. James Hong nailed it and the only thing missing was a Six Demon Bag!
Wind, fire, all that kind of thing!
James Hong cameo was good. Should have had James Hong voice the whole thing though – even if he wasn’t dancing. Also – should have had more cameos from the actual movie. Fake Kurt Russell almost completely ruined it.
