Word that Adele would be singing the theme song for Skyfall, the latest James Bond movie, hit late last night/this morning, and was of limited importance to me as I’m not a 15-year-old girl or a 30-year-old mopey cat lady, but now there’s an audio clip online and you can listen for yourself. I’d think a swingin’ hepcat like Javier Barfly up there would want a more upbeat number, but at least there aren’t any overt references to Bond drinking Heineken now. Instead it’s a sad ditty about the sky falling. Do you think they let the people know what the movie is about or do they just have to write a song based on word association?
Suffice to say, minor-key British warbling isn’t really my cup of tea, but if you’re into it, go ahead and rock out with your wiener out, man. Tell your boss I said it was cool.
Love like you’ve never been hurt before, dance with your wiener out, etc. Skyfall opens November 9th in the US, October 23rd in the UK.

FIRST!!!!
Go back to WWTDD.
Hey, I don’t care what you say, I like Adele.
*hides burned copy of 21 with mother’s handwriting*
I love Bond films. I love Adele. Your words are but flies to me, Mancini.
I didn’t say she sucked, I just said she’s not my cup of tea. Give her an upbeat number about a sheepdog riding a bicycle and I’d be creaming my pants for that broad.
Aside from her horrific natural voice, how can you not get down and boogie to a jam like “I’ll Be Waiting”?
I don’t know why that wasn’t a response to the previous comment or why it didn’t include my video link. HARUMPH.
Holy shit
All I know is this: If Bond doesn’t quip about Chicken Little then I will immediately want my money back.
Dude, you forgot middle-aged people. Middle-aged people LOVE Adele like they love CBS cop dramas and that yogurt that helps you poop.
I don’t mean that as an insult to Adele, though. She’s cool.
FACT: There hasn’t been a “good” James Bond theme song since A View To a Kill.
DISPUTE: Goldeneye is cheesy 90s’ ballad perfection.
Please don’t leave The World is Not Enough, by Garbage out of this fight. I loves me that redhead.
No love for Duran Duran or A-Ha?
“A View to a Kill” was Duran Duran.
Derp. In my head, somehow Ah Ha got switched around with Duran Duran.
Uh, hello? The World is Not Enough? Easily Brosnan’s best and the best of the post-Moore era.
The World Was Not Enough was terrible. Denise Richards as a goddamn Rocket Surgeon named Christmas Jones? Fuck that shit.
GRRRR Subjective Opinions!
I was talking solely about the music. The film itself is a matter for a different discussion.
Can we start a petition to have this replaced in the DVD release with a dub-step remix of a dial tone and yawns?
Okay, granted I’m not too familiar with many of the more recent Bond songs, but has there ever been a Bond theme song that wasn’t a song about the title of the film besides Octopussy? Sh*t, even Moonraker was in the Moonraker lyrics.
Quantum of Solace. The lyrics do contain the word “solace,” but I think that’s as close as they get.
Dr. No, yo.
‘Tree blind mice – In a row!
‘Tree blind mice – ‘Dere dey go!
Marching down de street – Single file!
To a calypso beat – All de while!
‘Dey looking fo’ de cat
De cat dat swallowed de rat
‘Dey want to show dat cat de at-ti-tude
o’ ‘tree blind mice
“Hell” and “yes”.
“Nobody Does it Better,” the theme song of The Spy Who Loved Me. It does mention the title of the film, but only once.
Nowhere in Chris Cornell’s theme for Casino Royale (“You Know My Name”) does it remotely mention the words “Casino” or “Royale.”
I don’t think “Casino Royale” is mentioned in that godawful Chris Cornell abortion.
I think you’re right. Still, I thought it was bold to finally get a dude to sing. I don’t consider myself a Bondaholic, but those movies get played so much on cable, I think I’ve seen most of them way more than once. As far as I can recall, only Duran Duran, Louis Armstrong and the From Russia With Love guy were the only other guys who sang the theme songs.
Paul McCartney (in Wings) for Live and Let Die.
Tom Jones sang Thunderball. That dude is all man. Women threw their hotel room keys at him. I wonder if he ever showed up.
Damnit, you beat me to it. I was replying to the thread that was higher up. RESPOND IN THE RIGHT THREAD, MANNNNNN.
Where Everybody Knows Your Name would be a more fitting theme song for such a world famous secret agent.
I’d just be happy with 3 minutes of Yakkity Sax when Bond chased around 3/4 naked women in sped-up time.
Hear hear!
Didn’t they already do that in the Woody Allen/Peter Sellers Casino Royale?
Three fourths of a naked woman?
Do they REALLY need two legs and vocal chords?
Bond should always break the 4th wall with that shit-eating Benny Hill grin every time he’s about to get laid, then cut to: [www.youtube.com]
Speaking of View to a Kill, I’m thinking Javier watched it and immediately made a hair dye appointment. If I were Penelope, I would have urged him to go for the Grace Jones hair, which is much more suited to his swarthy looks.
One of my favorite cheesy Christopher Walken roles. Javier looks like the bastard offspring of Walken’s character and Raul Julia.
Underball, you just blew my damn mind. His character’s name is Raoul Silva!
/head asplode
Others by men:
Thunderball was Tom Jones
Live and Let Die was a Goddamn Beatle!!
The Living Daylights was Ah-Ha
Die Another Day was Madonna who has been a dude for about 8 years now.
Jack White sang the last one with Alicia Keys.
omfg Ah Ha.
Poor Timothy Dalton never stood no chance.
Timothy Dalton was actually one of the better bonds. The Living Daylights is still an excellent entry into the series. They should have hired him earlier, before they had to spend more in the budget on Roger Moore’s toupees than on script writing.
I love that banner pic so damned much. “De clob cannot handle me rih now, Meesur Bont!”
You said it would be okay; it wasn’t.
