I posted the leaked New York comic-con footage from the Evil Dead remake last week and it caused quite a stir, judging by the nearly 4,000 Facebook shares, despite the crappy bootleg-quality video. Like I said at the time, two things it has going for it are that the project reportedly has original Evil Dead director Sam Raimi’s blessing, and director Fede Alvarez says he shot it entirely without CGI. He also says that the raping tree is “way more terrible than the original,” for what that’s worth.
Fede Alvarez: We didn’t do any CGI in the movie. There’s no CGI in the movie. Everything you will see is real, which was really demanding. This was a very long shoot, 70 days of shooting at night. There’s a reason people use CGI it’s cheaper and faster, I hate that. We researched a lot of magic tricks and illusion tricks. [Like] how you would make someone’s arm disappear.
Now that the trailer is here… well, I like the no-CGI thing, but it sort of looks like what happens to every remake, they get hung up on making it DARKER AND GRITTIER AND MORE BADASS! (With dub-step). When really, the thing that always separated Sam Raimi from the billion other low-budget horror directors was his flair for the goofy. If I wanted dark and gritty I’d stare at my stool.
[HD available at IGN, opens April 12th, 2013]

I hope this doesn’t lead to a gritty remake of Army of Darkness. That movie is a fucking masterpiece.
”Hey, what’s that on your face?”
/dirtface’d
If I wanted a non-CGI bloodfest with dubstep I’d rewatch the video of my toddlers on RedBull pop-up rave party.
Using nor CGI is pretty common in horror movies due to low budgets, the direct realizes that before he tried to brag about it, right?
Oh well, at least it still has tree rape.
im a remake acceptor, i dont hate em (unless they are terrible), nor do i compare them to the originals…just a different interpretation of the original for a different generation and its modern sensibilities…all that said, i cant wait for this, looks gritty sure, but its only the trailer. hopefully the goofiness will be in the movie and this is just a (pretty great) shock trailer
“it’s modern sensiblities”? I wasn’t made in the 1800s, for Christ’s sake.
It was definitely the goofieness that made these movies fun. Still – I’m looking forward to seeing this.
I’m guessing the tree rapes a dude this time around. And for 5 minutes.
The tree pops a Miracle-Gro first.
Rape Tree gives wood and leaves.
You are a god among insects.
Obviously agree with what you’re saying that making Evil Dead darker feels ridiculous because it’s supposed to be a sort of wacky horror. But also after Cabin in the Woods, it feels like this is going to be way less fun
Unless the raping tree scene is worse because other tree join in and it turns into a rape tree bukakke
Definitely feels like this might be the “I’ve watched enough Hentai to know where this is going…” scene.
Rape Tree is a Naughty Pine.
Rape Tree is all bark and more bite.
Rape Tree only rapes because you were axing for it.
/I am so sorry…
Your worst > My best.
Rape Tree doesn’t find it hard to see the force for the trees.
Rapes grow on vines, not trees.
If a tree rapes in the woods and no one is around, it’s just masturbation.
Rape Tree knows to go with the grain, otherwise it gets stained.
The tree rape scene features a cameo by Forest Whitaker.
It’s probably worth noting that the first evil dead wasn’t goofy like Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness. It was effective horror on a shoestring budget.
Tree’s just branching out.
It looks like it might have made a cool film on its own. Too bad I won’t see it. The first set of films was so brilliant that any reboots could only be disappointing.
Your stool has one advantage over this movie: It doesn’t have any part of Diablo Cody in it.
The first Evil Dead was kind of bleh. The unintentional humor helped it along, but the camp off the scale in ED2 and army of darkness are what made them cult classics. If the remake doesn’t have the same vibe, why even bother?
Evil Dead was goofy because of its duct tape and glue approach to the genre. Well, and unintentionally cheesy acting. I’m pretty stoked for this.
My tongue hurts :/
hei the film is really good. i watched the trailer and i would like to watch the film too. plz someone tell me is there a way ( i mean a site) to watch films online? if there is plz kindly leave comment as reply. thank u…
No there is not. This is the internet. There is absolutely no way to get things for free, ever.
The first 1:00 of that trailer makes it look identical to Cabin in the Woods. Apparently they are trying to be the movie that Cabin was parodying.
I watched the remake of Evil Dead this week for the special screening and it was amazing not only was it scary and yes very gory but it kept me glued to the screen the entire time. One of the most suspenseful movies I’ve ever seen. I’m so excited for it to come out I think people will really enjoy it. Nothing like any of the scary movies that have been coming out lately.
I am also not a hater of remakes unless they EFFING suck. But this looks good and yes, the fact that they did not CGI is a selling point. it means you care about the craft and don’t want it to look (too) fake.
