I guess as time has passed, the legend has grown stronger and more people have come to appreciate just how amazing of a film it is, but for a long time it really seemed like Mars Attacks was one of the most underrated and underappreciated movies of all-time. Released in 1996, Mars Attacks is Tim Burton’s hilarious tale of an angry race of aliens that tries to conquer Earth, and it features arguably the greatest comedic ensemble cast of the last billion years, give or take an eon. For those reasons, I will try to find any reason to talk about this great movie, and thankfully someone provided an excuse this week.
A Redditor by the name of “warrhamster” created a thread entitled, “Let’s see how long till I get banned” on Wednesday, and knowing some Redditors and people on the Internet in general, that’s a pretty vague and terrifying statement. Luckily, once you open it, you’re greeted by a screen grab of a remarkable fake okcupid account for “MarsAmbassador”.

Sadly, it didn’t take long for the folks at okCupid to accept his challenge, and warrhamster was soon unable to log in. And that’s a shame, because another Redditor may have found the perfect match for “MarsAmbassador”.

Meanwhile, much to my additional delight, there’s also a Mars Attacks Twitter account. I don’t know if I’ve told you this lately, Internet, but I love you. ACK ACK.

And who is @MartialOverlord’s greatest natural enemy? @jessejane_xxx of course.
You know this kind of censorship would never happen at JuggaloversMatchBitch.com
I’m with you on the Mars Attacks! love, Burnsy. It took me a little while to get over the shock that they had (Spoiler alert?) vaporised Marty McFly & decapitated James Bond (piss off, I was 10) but I spent a good chunk of my awkward teenage years defending that movie & its greatness
I can’t believe I’m saying this about a Tim Burton movie, but Mars Attacks is totally underrated.
It’s uneven, but I still love the hell out of it. When Danny DeVito asks if anyone can fly a plane and Tom Jones can? Well all of nature comes out during “It’s Not Unusual” at the end? Sylvia Sidney? YES!
One of the funnier movie’s I’ve ever seen. The scene where they huff the nuke energy like helium had me in tears.
It spawned one of my most oft-repeated phrases: “We still have two out three branches of our government, and that ain’t bad!”
Sure, this is cool, but I do one for Patrick Bateman and suddenly wanting to dissect girls is a bannable offense?
[www.flickr.com] was better when i did it.
When I don’t want to talk to my wife, I start talking like a martian from Mars Attacks! She hates it but also loves the movie, so I usually get a laugh before she punches me.
Favorite things about that screenshot: He’s looked at plenty of profiles with that account (at least 6, if you look at the “You recently visited…” thingy) and that he typed out all the ACK/ack’s one by one, because there’s one spelled “akc.”
Thats dedication.
