"Behold, my greatest creation, the Disheveling Ray, capable of turning a normal man into-- OH GOD NO I'VE SHOT MYSELF!"
After the jump, I’ve got a new clip from The Avengers, featuring ScarJo and Ruff Daddy talking about Gamma Rays (your favorite!). The Avengers is already out in most foreign territories, where it’s racking up rave reviews (96% on RottenTomatoes so far), and sparking talk of even-bigger-than-expected box office. But in this clip, Scarlett Johansson gives a performance that could generously be described as… “understated.” Though she certainly enunciates well. I AM ROBO-SCARJO. GAMMA RAYS ARE BAD MEEP MORP.

Remember when a movie was released and THEN you saw it?
Not since the advent of bittorrent, no.
What if it’s a robot copy of ScarJo that’s been sent to spy on the Avengers? Bet you’d feel really stupid then.
Robot copy of ScarJo? Would it be bi-nary?
There’s a finite supply of sauciness in every human body. If you use all of it on how you jump through the ceiling and land on the floor, then obviously there’s not going to be much left over for voice inflection.
GAMMA RAYS ARE BAD MEEP MORP
The more you know! *cues music*
Question for Vince or anyone who knows: have Marvel studios / Disney released the Avengers in foreign territories first to cut down on piracy? I could be reading too much into this and maybe this is commonplace for major releases, but I remember an academic paper being released after SOPA was shelved that suggested the MPAA loses substantial money to torrenting only in cases where a foreign market receives a major film months or years after the domestic US release. Everyone who frequents this site realizes how long it takes for Hollywood to learn anything from well reasoned critiques of their business practices so if that was the reasoning behind the Avengers being released in foreign territories first I’d be surprised and grudgingly impressed.
That is an interesting point, but I think you are giving studio heads waaaay too much credit. I’m fairly certain The Avengers and Battleship are already out overseas because mindless action plays well in foreign territories. So, I believe it’s less about piracy and more about the CASH MONEY, Y’ALL! $KEET $KEET!
It is opening today here in Australia, but I guess I just assumed it was because today is Anzac Day, their version of Memorial Day. Seemed like a big holiday with everything shut down.
It’s an interesting point, and it probably does help cut down on piracy a little bit, but I think it’s more the fact that the studios have realised that they now make most of their money from the overseas market and that there really isn’t any point in staggering releases anymore. probably.
oops, meant that to be a reply to De Selby
brittabot and White Beaner: You’ve both probably hit at the truth of the matter, which is this has been done as a calculated cash grab, not the beginning of a new progressive business model that will result in better revenue from overseas markets. My memory of that article on piracy only being a bottom line factor when it came to foreign territories was triggered and people like to see patterns, so I was curious if this was a result of Disney listening to scholarly research. An impossibly stupid notion now that I’ve written the words out.
De Selby, those two things you said are the same, just worded differently. Calculated Cash Grab = New Progressive Business Model Resulting in Better Revenue from Overseas Markets.
Anything emitting more then a mouthful of gamma is a waste.
Weird…it’s almost like she’s not a good actress.
I told you about Whedon, dawg.
As far as technobabble scenes go, that was not that bad. It is hard to act those types of scenes because they are talking about comic book science. Really, I would not have put Black Widow on the roster, but Johansson should be able to do an adequate job as the Black Widow. While this clip may not necessarily inspire confidence and excitement, the trailer most certainly does.

So they already built a ScarJo robot? Goddamnit! Back to the drawing board.
*takes red hair wig and stuffed bra off the vacuum cleaner.
my fiancee made me watch Match Point last night (stupid channel 48!) but man oh man was ScarJo ever extremely hot back then.
I’m going to be that rare Drunkard and give her the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps shes speaking in low even tones because shes trying to keep things nice and calm. A good idea considering who she’s talking to. But I’m probably reading too much into it.
Scientist 1: Blah, blah, gamma radiation.
Scientist 2: STOP LYING TO ME!!
Scientist 1: Points cocked, loaded pistol in the face of Scientist 2.
Sounds legit.
The trailers to this movie makes me laugh. It looks like a steaming pile of petrified piss.
