I took this screengrab of Ashley Hinshaw topless from the Chronicle trailer a while back, a scene which made a lot of sense, because, as I said in my review, if you’d given me telekinetic powers at the age of 17 or 18 like the characters in Chronicle, approximately 98% of my time would’ve been occupied finding elaborate ways to take girls’ clothes off. Sadly, whatever scene this still came from never made the final cut of the movie. I imagine the editor took it into his bunk and never left. Hopefully they’ve hired a different editor for Cherry, in which Ashley Hinshaw plays a nubile young starlet who gets taken in by the porn industry, falls in love with James Franco and his porny facial hair, and gets firm but affectionate direction in her porn career from Heather Graham. So yeah, basically, a must-see.

A drama centered on a troubled young 18-year-old girl named Angelina (Ashley Hinshaw) who moves to San Francisco, where she gets involved in pornography and aligns herself with a cocaine-addicted lawyer.

Cherry is written & directed by first-time filmmaker Stephen Elliott, a former sex worker who is also the author of seven books. The screenplay was written by Stephen Elliott and Lorelei Lee, a porn performer who is also a writer and lecturer at New York University. This indie just premiered at the Berlin Film Festival this month to mixed reviews, but is still looking for a US distributor, as far as we know. [FirstShowing]

Being a San Francisco resident for the last few years, I actually have some local knowledge of the setting. That building you see for a second at the 1:20 mark is actually the San Francisco Armory building, which was bought for $14.5 million by Kink.com in 2006, and inside of which they now shoot bondage porn and videos for the critially-acclaimed f*ckingmachines.com. All in all, it’s pretty fitting that a city like San Francisco would have a building called an “armory” that had zero guns and 10,000 dildos.
